Ytong Architectural Ideas Competition Deadline Extended to 2 December

Turkish Ytong, a supplier of innovative products in modern construction, continues to support creative work. The application period for the Ytong Architectural Ideas Competition organised by Turkish Ytong is now in its final stages. The Digital Colloquium process, which will bring together jury members and participants, will begin on Monday, 2 December 2019 following the submission of preliminary projects. Participants will have the opportunity and time to receive jury feedback through the digital colloquium, develop their ideas until the final deadline, and enrich the projects they have submitted.

Competition Targets Innovation and Creativity at Every Stage

The Ytong Architectural Ideas Competition gains prestige through its transparent process and methodology, as well as its jury composed of prominent figures in the sector. The competition also brings a different approach by being open to participation from all disciplines and by supporting innovative and creative ideas. With the "Digital Colloquium" that will begin following completion of the application process, participants and jury members will come together to add a new dimension to the competition. The Ytong Architectural Ideas Competition this year proposes focusing on architecture education, taking a critical distance from current events, and discussing the boundaries of an alternative educational environment that could sustain this approach. This competition proposes reflecting on the education of architects who value standing against the current as much as being swept by it; who regard myth-debunking as important as myth-making; who value demolition, transformation, or non-action as much as construction, and reduction as much as multiplication. The competition also encourages participants to consider not only how such a school should be, but also what it is, why it exists, and where it operates, while thinking in accordance with the qualities of the geography in which it is located. The competition jury members are: Architect Semra Uygur, Founder Partner of Uygur Architecture; Architect Melike Altınışık, Founder of Melike Altınışık Architects (MAA); Prof. Dr. Celal Abdi Güzer, Faculty Member of METU Department of Architecture; Architect Ömer Selçuk Baz, Founder Partner of Yalın Architecture; and Architect Nevzat Sayın, Founder of NSMH. Turkish and Northern Cyprus citizens can participate in the competition free of charge. The competition is open to architects, urban designers, city and regional planners, as well as students studying in these fields. Both team and individual applications are welcome. The final deadline for participation in the competition, in which the winning project owners will be awarded with a trip to Bauhaus in Germany, is 2 December 2019. Detailed information about the competition and terms of the competition can be found on the Ytong Academy website.
