Türk Ytong Offers Savings Solution in Thermal Insulation

As rising energy costs increase globally, thermal insulation in buildings to save energy has become increasingly important. Approximately 40 percent of Turkey's energy is used for heating residential buildings. Tolga Öztoprak, Deputy General Manager of Türk Ytong, stated: "As a country dependent on energy imports, we must use energy efficiently and develop energy-saving opportunities to reduce our annual energy imports, which reach 50 billion dollars." According to TÜİK data, 33 million people experience heating problems in their homes due to insufficient insulation. Approximately 30 million people have water leaking through their roof. Deputy General Manager of Türk Ytong Tolga Öztoprak drew attention to heating costs and unhealthy conditions in Turkish residences, conveying necessary considerations for thermal insulation as follows:

Energy saving through insulation

"Although thermal insulation measures have increased in structures built over the past fifteen years, the overall condition of the existing building stock does not look particularly good. The 2020 Income and Living Conditions Survey results published by TÜİK reveal that one of the most significant problems related to housing in our country is heating problems stemming from insulation deficiency. The survey showed that 36.7 percent of respondents cannot heat their homes due to insulation problems, and 34.7 percent of these experience problems due to leaking roofs, damp walls, and rotted window frames. Considering that we spend 90 percent of our lives in buildings, uninsulated and unhealthy structures have negative effects on our health as much as on our economy.

40 percent of our energy goes to heating homes

In our country, more than 40 percent of energy consumption occurs in residential buildings. Due to urbanization and construction pace, high temperatures from climate change, and increasing cold periods, our energy needs during both summer and winter months continue to rise. Discussions that largely focus on heating energy need to be expanded to include energy consumed for cooling purposes. To use energy and the resources we spend on it efficiently, we must build better-insulated structures and improve insulation in our existing buildings.
