OCSiAl introduces innovative graphene nanotube solutions for water-based dispersions with minimum solid content, films, coatings and packaging. OCSiAl has introduced a new series of graphene nanotube dispersions for thin transparent or colored conductive films and packaging. The new products meet customer requirements for low solid content formulations and high-quality thin nanomaterial dispersions. Applications include ultra-thin coatings such as UV coatings and coatings on PET, as well as antistatic binders with no changes in processing and preserved rheological properties.

Thin Coatings

The expansion of the graphene nanotube-based dispersion product line has been specifically developed to target new markets for nanotube use. OCSiAl Group Vice President and Leader of Elastomer Development and Support Ekaterina Gorbunova stated, "We have noticed that the packaging and film industries prefer to use dispersions with 0.2-0.4% graphene nanotube content." Recently developed products have extremely good nanotube dispersion quality and are particularly easier to use in specific applications with low solid content. This enables manufacturers to produce thin coatings that are stable over time with minimal impact on the color or transparency of the final products". The expanded product range includes nanotube water-based dispersions stabilized with anionic surfactants. A BA dispersion is in the development phase. The dispersions will be used in ultra-thin coatings where preserved processing and rheological properties are required, and in application areas such as antistatic UV coatings, and coatings on PET, binders and primers in applications where polymer-based systems including acrylic, nitrile, PU, etc. are used. The company plans to scale up production of these new dispersions to optimize logistics costs and ensure a stable local supply chain. New graphene nanotube dispersion production will be established in regions with the highest market demand, including Asia, Europe and the United States. Previously, the most common graphene nanotube dispersions were TUBALL™ BATT and TUBALL™ LATEX for battery and latex applications with OEMs based in China and Southeast Asia. For various polymer applications, the company has a wide range of graphene nanotube concentrates based on various carriers with high nanotube content of up to 25% of total weight. Source
