Şişecam Introduces "Antimicrobial V-Block Technology" Against Viruses and Bacteria

Şişecam Group has made a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat the global pandemic. Şişecam, leveraging its deep innovation culture and superior R&D capabilities, has developed a special coating that neutralizes viruses and bacteria on glass surfaces and, through its production capacity, applied this technology to glassware products—a world first. Under the "Antimicrobial V-Block Technology" developed by Şişecam to prevent the spread and multiplication of viruses and bacteria on glassware, laboratory tests on the formula and application method have been completed, and patent procedures have been initiated.

Glassware products equipped with this special technology developed by the Şişecam Science, Technology and Design Center will be offered for sale first in Turkey and then worldwide.

This 100% domestically developed technology, which will help reduce transmission risk during the pandemic period, will contribute significantly to the country's economy as well as the normalization process and exports. We have initiated patent procedures for the formula and application of the Antimicrobial V-Block Technology. After completing the licensing and necessary official approval procedures for this special technology that prevents harmful microorganisms from surviving on glass surfaces, we will first introduce it to the market in our country. Subsequently, as Şişecam, which brings its value-added products to customers in over 150 countries, we will expand to all world markets," he said.

The V-Block Technology developed at the Şişecam Science, Technology and Design Center provides 24/7 hygiene through its special formula and application technique.

The formula applied to products through vapor deposition at high temperature during production remains continuously active and is ideal not only for home use but also for high-risk environments such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, hospitals and canteens. The Antimicrobial V-Block Technology, which has successfully passed food contact tests, neutralizes viruses and bacteria on glass surfaces. Products coated with Antimicrobial V-Block Technology prevent Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria as well as numerous viruses including Bacteriophage, Feline calicivirus (FCV), Adenovirus, Canine parvovirus, Hepatitis A Virus, Herpes Simplex Virus, Influenza A, Murine Norovirus, Poliovirus, Rhinovirus, Rotavirus and Vacciniavirus from surviving and spreading, as confirmed by independent organizations. Preliminary findings have determined the technology to be effective against coronavirus, and testing and development processes in this area are ongoing.
