Oil Production From Tea Seeds Is Possible Tea Enterprises General Directorate (ÇAYKUR) is working on oil production from tea seeds through its R&D studies. ÇAYKUR had expanded its product range by producing green tea, white tea, and Matcha tea following black tea. Now, as a result of R&D studies conducted, the decision has been made to produce oil from tea seeds. ÇAYKUR will present tea seed oil to both producers and consumers.

ÇAYKUR to Begin Oil Production from Tea Seeds

ÇAYKUR is working to produce oil from tea seeds. Oil obtained from tea seeds can be used in many areas from cosmetics to food. ÇAYKUR General Director and Board Chairman Yusuf Ziya Alim made statements on the subject. ÇAYKUR General Director and Board Chairman Yusuf Ziya Alim stated that they purchased 860 thousand tons of fresh tea from producers and achieved sales of 157 thousand 850 tons of dried tea, closing an extremely productive year with the highest purchase and sales figures in the institution's history. Alim said they also attach importance to R&D activities.

Working to Provide Additional Contributions to Regional Economy

Alim stated: "While continuing to increase our market share domestically and internationally and developing product variety, we are conducting studies on producing value-added new products and providing additional contributions to our regional economy. In addition to over 110 varieties consisting of black, green and white teas, alongside our green tea-infused halva, pasta, powder, and detox teas, we are also working on oil production from tea seeds." Noting that they are trying to expand their product ranges by producing different products from tea, Alim said: "This year we will launch a matcha latte, a 3-in-1 type of tea beverage. We have green tea pasta, green tea halva, and green tea detox products. In the previous year we sold 4 tons of green tea powder. Last year it increased to 6 tons. With matcha latte, this figure will reach 30 tons. Once again with these products, it will be demonstrated that green tea is a beneficial and valuable product for health. In this sense, our R&D studies continue in different ways every day," he said.

"We Have Obtained an Oil Equivalent to Olive Oil"

Commenting also on the oil to be produced from tea seeds, Alim said: "This oil is used in the Far East. In the cosmetics sector and in food as well, we have obtained a highly effective oil equivalent to olive oil. We are continuing our studies on what may be different in terms of cost. We have a very high chance of entering the cosmetics industry at the initial stage. However, high-quality oil can be obtained from tea seeds. We produced this in our supercritical machine. The skin completely absorbs this oil. It has many different properties. God willing, we will work ambitiously in this area. Besides tea, we will also provide producers with a different economic aspect of the seed. We are thinking of different things with this, but at the initial stage we will extract tea seed oil and try to use it both in the cosmetics industry and in other ways," he said.
