What is the Water Diet? Consuming plenty of water is necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Water, which balances metabolism rate, blood pressure, and fat burning, causes many health problems when not consumed in sufficient quantities. Today, some diet programs that have emerged under the influence of social media are directing people to lose weight unconsciously. Many types of diets applied with water are sometimes confused with water fasting. In this context, Cardiologist Dr. Hamit Çelik states that the water diet, when applied consciously and in a controlled manner by expert personnel, is used in the permanent treatment of many chronic diseases and weight problems. Interest in the water diet, which is applied in the treatment of migraines, reflux, skin disorders, and chronic diseases, is increasing every day. The water diet, which helps with healthy weight loss when applied consciously and in a controlled manner, is sometimes confused with water fasting. However, there are many differences between the water diet and water fasting. At the top of this list is the fact that the water diet is applied under medical supervision for 60-90-120 days in the treatment of many diseases, which is one of the most important criteria that distinguishes it from water fasting.

What You Need to Know About the Water Diet

It is Not a Diet Performed by Only Drinking Water! Cardiologist Dr. Hamit Çelik, who emphasizes that the water diet is not merely a diet method applied by drinking water only, states: ''The water diet is a form of treatment in which the patient drinks as much water as they are thirsty for. Besides this, it is a diet in which only one type of food is consumed. The patient is treated with water and a feeling of satiety. Patients sometimes drink 3-4 liters of water but we need to prevent this. What is important is that they drink water as much as they are thirsty for, not by force.''

It Treats Psychological Hunger

The water diet creates a feeling of satiety in a person, which essentially causes them to be hungry. When the patient becomes hungry, the body's autophagy system activates and repairs the disease. Waste materials, bacteria, fungi, and parasites are broken down and eliminated. At the same time, heavy metals and toxins are expelled from the body. In this way, the patient's chronic complaints are also treated. A person following the water diet learns to eat less because they remain hungry for a long time. The sensation of hunger disappears, and psychological hunger also disappears. Since the patient's eating pattern becomes established after the diet ends, it also enables permanent weight loss.

Water and One Food!

Most patients who resort to the water diet consist of those who have dieted repeatedly and regained the weight they lost. The difference from other diets is that in normal diets, patients are given a diet list and are required to follow it during the treatment period. Eating times are fixed and there are many types of food to be consumed. The patient has become accustomed to eating continuously, even if in small amounts. When the diet is stopped, the lost weight is quickly regained. The reason for this is that it creates a continuous need to eat in a person. In the water diet, we recommend to the patient only water and one single food that they can consume alongside it. This diet must be followed for 60-90-120 days.

Nutrition Plan is Personalized

The water diet can be applied between 60 and 120 days. During this period, attention is paid to the patient's weight and height, and if there are chronic complaints, a diet plan is applied accordingly. Water consumed as much as the patient is thirsty for, and vitamin and mineral supplements should be added to the water. In this way, the patient is monitored. In the first 12 days, toxins and heavy metals are expelled from the body. Chronic complaints begin to visibly decrease starting from the 20th day. Skin diseases begin to improve from the 30th day onward. As the patient's condition is monitored, changes can be made to the treatment. After treatment, a different diet list is recommended to the patient. The characteristic of this diet is the prohibition of foods containing flour. Fried foods are prohibited, and all foods containing refined sugar are prohibited.

Medical Supervision is Absolutely Necessary

The water diet must be performed entirely under medical supervision. In particular, it should only be started after cardiovascular screening has been performed and medical examination confirms the patient is suitable for the water diet. This is because hypotensive episodes can occur during the water diet, and patients sometimes experience stress, which is why a cardiology examination is important to avoid any problems with cardiovascular health. Heavy metals expelled from the body are eliminated through organs. For this reason, medical supervision is of great importance in the water diet to prevent any damage to organs.
