TEKSAN Designs Energy for Agriculture Energy and food supply security are considered priority issues in the global climate crisis. Exemplary projects where energy is produced through efficient and environmentally friendly methods are increasing hopes for sustainable solutions for the future. Teksan, which stands out for its R&D work, meets the greenhouse's electricity and hot water needs through a biogas-fired cogeneration system installed in a soilless greenhouse system, one of these exemplary projects. The environmentally friendly farm greenhouse aims to prevent the release of 16 tons of methane and 10 tons of carbon dioxide annually. Under the leadership of Ege University Biomass Energy Systems and Technologies Center (BESTMER), in partnership with TEKSAN and BHK Yapı, the project "Development of Modern Greenhouses with Zero Waste, Low Operating Costs, and Flexible Production Systems Using Biochemical-Thermochemical Hybrid Biomass Energy Production Technologies" was implemented. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry - General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) R&D Support Program, renewable energy technology was integrated into a fully automated greenhouse system featuring carbon dioxide fertilization, LED lighting, heat control, humidity control, fertilization, and soilless vertical farming by Teksan. Through cooperation between Teksan R&D Center and BESTMER, a biogas-fueled cogeneration system and biogas purification system specially designed for the project were installed.   Teksan's biogas-fueled cogeneration unit, specially developed for this project as an example of renewable energy use in different fields, meets all energy needs for climate control, lighting, and automation of the soilless vertical farming greenhouse, while also meeting hot water needs in winter. Additionally, fermented fertilizer, one of the outputs of the hybrid system used, can be utilized as nutrient solution in the soilless farming system, while the exhaust gas from the cogeneration system can be used in carbon dioxide fertilization. Systems running on biogas prevent waste from harming nature while reducing energy production costs. With the biogas cogeneration system we installed for the soilless greenhouse project, we have set a good example for studies that can be conducted in the renewable energy field. The cogeneration system used in the project will provide uninterrupted energy to the greenhouse while also meeting hot water needs in winter. The exhaust gas from the cogeneration system can be used in carbon dioxide fertilization. Thus, in addition to the economic gains achieved, the system will prevent the release of 16 tons of methane and 10 tons of carbon dioxide annually in the area where it is installed, contributing to environmental protection. We hope that this exemplary project, which we have implemented under the leadership of BESTMER, will be widely adopted and will increase interest in biogas-fueled systems."
