“Don't Ignore, Make Room” Call for Mental Health from Abdi İbrahim Otsuka
Abdi İbrahim Otsuka is launching the “Make Room” project to raise social awareness for individuals living with mental illnesses, as part of World Mental Health Day on October 10. Carried out under the message “Don't Ignore, Make Room,” the project aims to achieve greater social acceptance for individuals living with mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and to reduce prejudices against them.

In addition to the symptoms of their illness, individuals living with mental illnesses may also face concerns about being judged, misunderstood, excluded and stigmatized. This situation can lead to withdrawal from social relationships and a tendency to turn to digital environments where individuals can express themselves more comfortably.

Abdi İbrahim Otsuka's “Make Room” project draws attention to this invisible distance, emphasizing the importance of going beyond listening to individuals living with mental illnesses to truly trying to understand them, seeing them as part of social life, and adopting an inclusive approach against prejudices.

Digital content for mental health awareness
The website prepared as part of the project features “Make Room Guides” offering behavior-focused recommendations on depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The “Make Room for My Voice” series, meanwhile, features the experiences of individuals living with mental illnesses, anonymously and in their own words.

City-based data on mental health can also be examined through the platform. Visitors can also offer individual support to the project through the “Promise to Make Room” option.

By bringing together informative content, personal experiences, social visibility and individual participation, the project aims to contribute to reducing the prejudices faced by individuals living with mental illnesses in social life.
