Abdi İbrahim Advances Digital and Green Transformation in Pharmaceuticals

Abdi İbrahim, the leading company in Turkey's pharmaceutical sector, has taken a further step in its digital transformation and sustainability efforts in healthcare. The company launched its first products featuring an electronic package leaflet (e-PL), implementing one of the pioneering applications of digital and green transformation in the pharmaceutical sector.
Abdi İbrahim, a leading company in the Turkish pharmaceutical sector, has taken another step in its transformation toward healthcare digitalization and sustainability. The company has launched its first products containing electronic instructions for use (e-IFU), implementing one of the pioneering applications of digital and green transformation in the pharmaceutical sector.
Starting a phased transition process in its product portfolio as of June 2026, Abdi İbrahim has introduced its first series of medicines with electronic instructions for use to consumers. This marks the beginning of a new era in which users will be able to access current instructions for use digitally through QR codes on medicine boxes.
Acting in line with the regulation by the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK), which is affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of Health, to make instructions for use on medicine boxes electronically accessible, Abdi İbrahim became one of the first companies to implement the e-IFU application.
The company has gradually commenced its transition to QR-coded packaging containing only electronic instructions for use, as of June 2026, for products in its portfolio excluding those exempted under applicable regulations. By adopting the application early, which will become mandatory on 1 January 2027, Abdi İbrahim aims to extend the transformation across all eligible products.
Thanks to the new application, users will be able to quickly and easily access current instructions for use by scanning QR codes on medicine boxes with their smart devices.
"Bringing Twin Transformation Together in One Box"
Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül, Head of Human Resources, Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Abdi İbrahim, noted that the project directly aligns with the company's HEAL2050 Sustainability Strategy, stating:
"At Abdi İbrahim, we place sustainability at the center of all our activities. In every project we implement, we evaluate social benefit, environmental impact and technological advancement together. The QR-coded electronic instructions for use application is one of the concrete examples of this approach. On one hand, we support digitalization in healthcare services and facilitate user access to information; on the other hand, we reduce paper consumption and lower our carbon footprint. We are proud to bring digital and green transformation together in the same project."
Target Annual CO₂e Emissions Reduction of Approximately 2,500 Tonnes
The QR Code Project stands out as an important component of Abdi İbrahim's HEAL2050 Sustainability Strategy objective to transform into a low-carbon company.
With the gradual removal of printed instructions for use, the company aims to achieve an annual reduction of approximately 2,500 tonnes of CO₂e greenhouse gas emissions. While the application contributes to reducing paper consumption, it also presents a transformation model aligned with Turkey's 2053 Net Zero Emissions targets.
The project, which brings together digitalization, sustainability and user experience under one roof, is drawing attention as an important example demonstrating that environmental responsibility and technological transformation can advance together in the pharmaceutical sector.
