The new stop for the Regional Meetings of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was Diyarbakır.

Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Holds Regional Meeting in Diyarbakır.

The scientific meeting addressed current developments in breast aesthetics, surgical complications and oncological approaches. The Society plans to organize similar meetings in different provinces including Adana, Malatya and Kahramanmaraş by the end of 2025.

The Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (TPRECD) held its latest scientific training activity across the country in Diyarbakır. The meeting, which took place on 24 May with the participation of 125 plastic surgeons, achieved significant success both in terms of scientific quality and academic knowledge sharing, as well as in the social interaction and solidarity it created among colleagues in the region.

Physicians from Diyarbakır, Batman, Bingöl, Siirt, Ağrı, Mardin, Kahramanmaraş, Van, Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Malatya, Gaziantep, Adana, Erzincan and Erzurum, as well as from provinces such as Eskişehir, Konya, Kayseri, Mersin, Ankara and Bolu attended the meeting, which saw active participation from plastic surgery specialists and residents in the East Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions.

Both Aesthetic and Oncological Approach
The meeting addressed current approaches to breast aesthetics, management of potential postoperative complications and fundamental knowledge on oncological surgery. The program, which evaluated aesthetic and functional dimensions as a whole, contributed to both the practical and theoretical development of surgeons in the region.

Female Plastic Surgeons in the Spotlight
The Diyarbakır meeting also attracted attention as an educational activity where speakers were predominantly female surgeons. TPRECD President Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yazar commented on this: "The strong representation of female surgeons at our Diyarbakır meeting made a meaningful contribution that also aligns with the social fabric of the region. Supporting representation equality alongside scientific competence is an important principle for us."

Regional Meetings Fill a Major Gap
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Demir, Board Member and Head of Scientific Affairs of TPRECD, noted that such regional meetings fill a significant gap and summarized the importance of the meeting as follows: "For colleagues who cannot always access training held in centers like Ankara or Istanbul, regional meetings like this one are a major need. They increase access to knowledge and allow us to directly understand different challenges in the field."

Doç. Dr. Zafer Pekkolay, Vice Dean of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, made the following assessment as host of the event: "We were delighted to host such a high-quality scientific organization. Such meetings make a significant contribution to our region in terms of both scientific development and knowledge and experience sharing, as well as professional solidarity."

Doç. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Akkoç, Head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Dicle University and Regional Meeting Chair, stated: "The active participation of regional surgeons and their interest in scientific discussions made us extremely happy. We support the widespread adoption of TPRECD's educational model and hope for its sustainability."

Local Needs Meet National Education
The Society, which plans to organize similar meetings in different provinces such as Adana, Malatya and Kahramanmaraş by the end of 2025, aims to provide on-site training and build strong professional networks through this model that takes regional needs into account. TPRECD President Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yazar reiterated his message regarding their educational vision: "Through on-site meetings, we are not only providing education; we are also directly engaging with the problems, demands and potential of our colleagues. We will place even greater emphasis on regional meetings in 2026."
