EVONIK INTRODUCES NEW-GENERATION SURFACTANT: GLYCOLIPID TECHNOLOGY

RHEANCE® One, the first product in the glycolipid series, is a next-generation surfactant with strong cleaning properties and excellent skin compatibility. It is a sugar-based raw material that is environmentally friendly and contains 100% natural renewable content. It is produced through fermentation technology synthesized by microorganisms. Since RHEANCE® One is 100% biodegradable, it also contributes to reducing waste in natural water and marine ecosystems. RHEANCE® One has a very soft and non-irritating structure for skin and mucous membranes. Micellar water, foam, gel and wet wipe facial cleansing products, toothpaste, mouthwash, baby cleansing products, hair and body shampoos have a very wide range of applications. Depending on the application, usage at 1-8% is recommended. It is very easy to use with its low viscosity. The optimal pH range for use is 5-8. In vitro-mildness evaluation results such as red blood cell (RBC) test and Zein test confirm the non-irritating structure of RHEANCE® One. Figure 1 shows the RBC test comparison result of RHEANCE® One with other surfactants free of standard PEG and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).

Unlike standard surfactants such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB), RHEANCE® One has been proven by the Zein test not to cause any protein denaturation. RHEANCE® One combines high foaming power with a dense and creamy foam structure. The foam kinetics of RHEANCE® One were tested with SITA equipment, showing similar performance to Sodium Laureth Sulfate as seen in Figure 2.

In addition, RHEANCE® One provides a very dense, creamy and stable foam. Tests conducted with a Krüss foam test apparatus show more bubbles per mm² initially and smaller average bubble size per μm² compared to Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB), see Table 1.

The long-lasting makeup removal performance of RHEANCE® One, when compared with standard solvents, provides excellent cleaning as shown in Figure 3.

RHEANCE® One facilitates the inclusion of essential oils in liquid formulations. Figure 4 compares solubilization effectiveness with standard PEG solvents and a non-PEG benchmark.
