Sanofi Announces New Urology Technology Sanofi Türkiye announced a significant domestic production investment at a press conference. Cem Öztürk, Country President of Sanofi Türkiye and Head of Sanofi Türkiye, Africa and Middle East Essential Products, stated that they have brought an important three-layer technology to Turkey, continuing as follows: 'We have completely localized an import worth EUR 6.5 million, and we are very proud of this. Looking at the entire portfolio, nearly all of our investments have reached EUR 1 billion.' he said. In the field of benign prostate enlargement, counted among today's chronic diseases, Sanofi introduced a manufacturing technology that positively supports patient treatment compliance to its Lüleburgaz facility and the Turkish pharmaceutical industry following a three-year preparation phase. Three-layer tablet manufacturing technology represents a first for the Turkish pharmaceutical industry. Speaking at the event, Cem Öztürk, Country President of Sanofi Türkiye and Head of Sanofi Türkiye, Africa and Middle East Essential Products, stated that Sanofi has been operating in Turkey for approximately 65 years and will continue to produce for Turkey, create economic value, generate employment and export.

'We have completely localized an import worth EUR 6.5 million'

Öztürk noted that they brought a very important urology product from France to Turkey, stating: 'We have brought an important three-layer technology to Turkey. We have completely localized an import worth EUR 6.5 million, and we are very proud of this. Looking at the entire portfolio, nearly all of our investments have reached EUR 1 billion. We intend to continue our investments. Sanofi's contribution to the Turkish economy is approximately EUR 110 million. We continue to export 10 percent of this amount to various countries around the world, even to countries where exports are very difficult such as Japan and Germany.' he said. Öztürk emphasized that the country must move away from conventional products, noting the following:
'Technologically, we need to shift to very different technologies that can be exported worldwide and manufacture them here. For this, we have both human capacity and technical competence. That is why we are gradually beginning to bring not only conventional products but also technologically biotechnological products here. Taking these steps is very important for our country, and for a pioneering company like us in this field, and we want to continue by creating this ecosystem. The developed technology is a three-layer technology. A technology that dissolves very easily in water, and here is the benefit it creates in the patient's life: When you take approximately one tablet, you have 24-hour slow release, where each layer partially releases itself and enters into effect, and over a total of 24 hours you can continue your life without needing any other medication. Our fundamental mission is to pursue the miracles of science and offer these miracles of science to human health, making human health and human life better. That is why we are very pleased.' The Geomatrix technology, brought to Turkey for the first time thanks to Sanofi's investment and technology transfer, enables a three-layer tablet formulation. In three-layer tablets, the active substance is located in the core section while this substance is wrapped by two layers found in the lower and upper sections. Thus, instead of taking multiple medications during the day, a single tablet you take has an effect spanning 24 hours. With this characteristic, the technology makes a difference for patients while also minimizing undesired effects.

Preparation took 3 years, team trained in France

According to information provided at the event, the Lüleburgaz facility, Sanofi's third-largest manufacturing plant globally, which produces one of every seven medicine boxes for Turkey and exports products to 49 countries including Germany, United Kingdom, France, Australia and Japan, underwent a three-year preparation process for this technology transfer. The newly formed team went to the Tours facility in Lyon, France for training. A special area was created in the facility for this production. Following the installation of the printing machine equipped with three-layer tablet pressing technology, the facility gained the competence to manufacture tablets with this feature. A technical file containing the obtained data was prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Health, and with the Ministry's approval, commercial production began in March 2023.   Source
