Aksa Akrilik Recovers Over 304,000 Tons of Wastewater

Sharing its sustainability performance on World Environment Day, Aksa Akrilik recovered more than 304,500 tons of wastewater in 2025, while continuing its efforts to optimize resource use through energy efficiency and circular economy practices.

On World Environment Day, Aksa Akrilik shared its sustainability performance, recovering over 304,500 tonnes of wastewater in 2025 while continuing efforts to optimize resource use through energy efficiency and circular economy practices.

In today's industry, competition is no longer shaped solely by product quality, performance and cost; it is also determined by how efficiently resources are used, how environmental impacts are managed, and the extent to which sustainability goals are implemented.

Aksa Akrilik, a company of Akkök Holding and the world's leading and Turkey's first and only acrylic fibre producer, demonstrated concrete results of its sustainable production approach through data shared on World Environment Day. Through work conducted in its polymerization unit, which consumes significant quantities of water, the company recovered over 304,500 tonnes of wastewater and 9 tonnes of raw materials back into production processes in 2025.

Placing efficient use of natural resources, widespread adoption of circular economy practices, and reduction of environmental impacts at the centre of its long-term value creation strategy, Aksa Akrilik continues work across a wide range of areas, from water and energy management to emission reductions, waste recovery, and biodiversity protection.

"Sustainability is an integral part of our business model"
Didem Tunçbilek, Board Member and General Manager of Aksa Akrilik, noted that sustainability has become one of the fundamental factors determining industry's competitive strength, stating:

"At a time when resources are becoming increasingly critical, we view sustainability not merely as an environmental responsibility, but as one of the fundamental elements of long-term value creation. We shape all our activities, from our operations to our strategic decision-making processes, in line with this understanding. We are steadfastly pursuing work on water management, energy efficiency, emission monitoring, waste recovery, and circular economy practices, while continuing to develop our production technologies to strengthen our environmental performance."

Notable water management performance
In today's context, where protection of water resources has become more important than ever due to climate change and rising water stress, Aksa Akrilik positions resource efficiency among the fundamental priorities of its production processes.

Through initiatives to revalue wastewater generated in polymerization processes, the company recovered over 304,500 tonnes of wastewater and 9 tonnes of raw materials in 2025. Through implemented projects, over 50,000 tonnes of water were reused, while improvements made in batch dyeing processes resulted in annual water savings of approximately 2,600 tonnes.

Energy efficiency and circular economy-focused transformation
Aksa Akrilik continues energy management work within the framework of ISO 50001 Energy Management System. In 2025, through energy efficiency projects carried out, the company achieved energy savings of over 153,411 MWh. During the same period, over 76,705 MWh of waste heat was recovered and reused in production processes.

Adopting a circular economy approach in waste management as well, the company continues work on recovery of production-related waste, increasing its non-hazardous waste recovery rate to 20 percent. Additionally, the company ensured that fly ash and wet slag waste generated as a result of energy production activities are reused as alternative raw materials in different sectors, contributing to resource efficiency.

Investment in the future through resource efficiency
Integrating sustainable production practices into all its operations, Aksa Akrilik continues its investments in line with goals of using resources more efficiently, reducing its carbon footprint, and spreading circular economy practices. While improving its environmental performance, the company continues to steer the sector through a high value-added production approach.
