AstraZeneca Named on Financial Times "Europe's Climate Leaders" List

AstraZeneca, which aims to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025, has become one of 300 European companies with the highest rate of reduction in greenhouse gas emission intensity. AstraZeneca was listed among 300 companies in the Financial Times' "Europe's Climate Leaders: 2021" ranking. The list, compiled by a research firm, identifies European companies that reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity* at the highest rate each year. AstraZeneca, which reduced baseline greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 5.9 percent annually between 2014 and 2019, was one of nine healthcare companies on the list. Placing sustainability at the center of company operations, AstraZeneca has adopted targets to address environmental challenges both globally and in Turkey. AstraZeneca unveiled its "Ambition Zero Carbon" strategy at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting held in Davos, Switzerland in 2020, and committed to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2025 by sourcing all energy consumption from renewable energy sources for both power and heat. With its "Ambition Zero Carbon" commitment, the company aims to reduce the emission levels of its operations to zero globally. As part of this effort, it launched the "AZ Forest" initiative, a reforestation project with 50 million trees, worldwide.   It established a partnership with local governments in Australia, where the first tree was planted in February 2020, and One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation. Through this initiative, the company also supports the "1T.org – One Trillion Trees" platform launched by the World Economic Forum. To contribute to the global "Ambition Zero Carbon" strategy, protect nature, and provide a healthy living for future generations, AstraZeneca Turkey founded the "AstraZeneca Turkey Zero Carbon Working Group" on a voluntary basis in 2020. Through the working group's activities, a total of 80,000 saplings were donated in the provinces of Gaziantep, Eskişehir, Izmir, Hatay, and Kocaeli. The Zero Carbon Working Group also continues to raise awareness through environmental impact reduction suggestions, information dissemination, and workshop activities conducted within the company and on AstraZeneca Turkey's corporate social media accounts.
