BASF Achieves CO2 Savings Through Biomass Balance Approach
"Reducing CO2 together" is the slogan of the collaboration between Uzin Utz Group, a comprehensive flooring systems supplier, and BASF SE, the chemicals company.
The driving force behind greater climate protection and sustainability is BASF's biomass balance approach. This is because the Ulm-based construction chemicals manufacturer purchases base products from BASF that are produced using renewable raw materials according to a certified biomass balance approach. In this way, Uzin Utz incrementally increases the proportion of raw material binders from biomass-based sources in its flooring systems, reducing greenhouse gas emissions while protecting fossil resources. By using renewable sources instead of fossil fuels alone, Uzin Utz can reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 3,000 tonnes per year in terms of raw materials. Philipp Utz, Board Member of Uzin Utz Group, said: "In the future, we want to make an even greater contribution to a transparent sustainable value chain and further expand our role model function in the sector. The Ulm-based construction chemicals manufacturer is working closely with BASF in a continuous improvement process to increase the proportion of bio-based raw materials in its products in order to protect valuable and limited resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions."Advertisement
