Biotrend Enerji to Build Waste Plastic Recycling Facility
Biotrend Enerji plans to establish Turkey's first commercial-scale waste plastic recycling facility using Honeywell's UpCycle Process technology to convert plastic waste into recycled polymer feedstock.
Biotrend Enerji has announced it will use Honeywell's UpCycle Process Technology at the plastic recycling factory it plans to build in Turkey. The facility, which will convert mixed plastic waste into recycled polymer feedstock (RPF), will enable the development of a circular economy for plastics.
Upon completion, the facility will be Turkey's first commercial-scale plastic waste recycling facility using Honeywell's UpCycle Process Technology.
The advanced recycling facility planned for construction is expected to have the capacity to convert 30,000 metric tons of mixed plastic waste annually into Honeywell recycled polymer feedstock using UpCycle Process Technology.
Related engineering work and technical services, including commissioning, start-up and technical support services throughout the facility's lifetime, will be provided by Honeywell UOP.
Leadership in waste management
As part of the project marking the beginning of cooperation between Honeywell and Biotrend Enerji on advanced plastic waste recovery in Turkey, the parties plan to continue collaboration on new plastic waste recycling facilities in the future. However, some plastic waste cannot be mechanically recycled due to contamination and certain process limitations caused by dyes and additives used in plastic production. Plastics that cannot be mechanically recycled are currently either converted to waste-derived fuel (WDF) or disposed of in solid waste landfills.
