Clariant Launches Major Climate Campaign
Clariant has launched a major global campaign to reduce the impact of nitrous oxide (N2O) on climate change. Leveraging decades of catalyst research expertise, the company has developed the EnviCat N2O-S catalyst, which has demonstrated the ability to reduce N2O—a byproduct of nitric acid production—by up to 95%.
Clariant is providing free EnviCat N2O-S catalyst charges to 10 nitric acid producers. Through this campaign, the company aims to help prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to several million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
More than half of approximately 500 nitric acid facilities operating globally are located in regions without applicable emission control regulations and operate without N2O reduction. Through this campaign, Clariant is directing its efforts toward more sustainable processes.
The company is offering the first charge of EnviCat N2O-S catalyst free of charge to 10 nitric acid producers that are not currently using N2O reduction catalysts.
Sustainability at the Core of What We Do
Clariant Operations Director Hans Bohnen commented on the campaign. Bohnen stated: "Sustainability is no longer an afterthought; it is at the core of what we do and it requires action now. This is why we have announced new and ambitious science-based climate targets for Clariant. As a specialty chemicals company, we can do more. I am proud to announce that we are committing a significant investment to help nitric acid producers worldwide nearly eliminate N2O gas emissions." Bohnen noted that this campaign will benefit the climate while also helping nitric acid producers minimize their carbon footprints and advance their sustainability journeys.Advertisement
