Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri Installs Solar Power Plant

Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri has installed a solar power plant at the roof of its ceramic sanitary ware factory located at the VitrA Production Campus in Bozüyük, Bilecik. According to VitrA's statement, the company aims to generate a total of 5.4 million kWh of energy in 2023 and will install solar energy panels on the roofs of all its buildings by the end of 2025. The solar power plant with an installed capacity of 4.29 MWp comprises 8,096 panels and 40 inverters. With the rooftop solar power plant implemented through a TRY 45 million investment, the company targets to generate a total of 5.4 million kWh of energy this year. Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri Chief Executive Officer Özgen Özkan, whose views were included in the statement, noted that by the end of 2025, they will reach a total renewable energy installed capacity of 19.7 MWp with the 112,000 square-metre rooftop solar power plant they plan to install, stating: 'When we reach these levels, we will meet approximately 30 per cent of our annual electricity needs from renewable energy sources that we produce ourselves. Starting in 2022, we purchased I-REC certified green electricity, bringing our production-related electricity carbon emissions to zero. In the coming years, while using the electricity we will generate from our renewable energy investments, we will continue to procure the remaining amount from certified green electricity sources. We are developing our strategy by placing sustainability at the centre of our business for a better future and taking our actions accordingly. In line with our sustainability strategy, we are accelerating our renewable energy investments and evaluating all opportunities that will support our low-carbon transition roadmap. We are prioritising this in both our planned investments and benefiting from innovation and new technologies for energy efficiency in our current production.'

'Next are our fittings and underground tank factories'

Özgen Özkan stated that in addition to the ceramic sanitary ware factory in Bozüyük, they have also installed solar power plants on the roofs of their stores in Ankara, Bodrum and Suadiye, adding: 'Next are our fittings and underground tank factories. By the end of 2025, we will not have a building without solar energy panels on its roof. Along with our renewable energy investments, our aim in purchasing certified green electricity is both to reduce carbon emissions from electricity consumption in our production facilities and stores and to contribute to accelerating the transition to renewable energy by encouraging other producers in our country.' he stated. Özkan, noting that as of 2022, they shared the work included in Eczacıbaşı Group's sustainability reports since 2008 through a Sustainability Report that they prepared for the first time as an organisation, which is GRI-approved and aligned with WEF Stakeholder Capitalism Indicators, continued as follows: 'We know how important energy efficiency is alongside renewable energy in the sustainability journey. For this reason, we are investing in energy management systems and evaluating digital transformation opportunities. We are accelerating energy efficiency projects and increasing academy-private sector collaborations.
