Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri, operating under the brands VitrA, Artema, İntema and burgbad, has published its 2022 Integrated Sustainability Report under the motto "Building a healthy future together." According to the report, these brands sourced 93.4% of their electricity from renewable sources and the organization reduced total carbon emissions by 38.5% compared to 2021. This year, Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri prepared two comprehensive reports transparently conveying its sustainability strategy, performance, targets and progress towards achieving them. The report titled "Story of our Ambition" includes the organization's sustainability strategy as well as sustainability initiatives, best practice examples and targets. The second report, titled "Facts about our Actions," presents a data-driven approach to analyzing Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri' sustainability performance, encompassing detailed insights into sustainability practices. Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri CEO Özgen Özkan stated in his message in the report that total carbon emissions under Scopes 1 and 2 have been reduced by 38.5% and carbon emissions per ton of product by 36% compared to 2021 baseline year. "We Plan to Increase Our Installed Solar Power Capacity to 18 MW by 2025" Özkan said: "As an international player operating in the energy-intensive building products sector, we are aware of our responsibility to respect planetary boundaries and reduce our environmental footprint. In this direction, we are accelerating our renewable energy investments and utilizing all available resources to support our low-carbon transition roadmap." Özkan also noted in his message that in 2022 they successfully installed the first 4 MW solar power plant on the roof of their Bozüyük facilities. "We have zeroed out carbon emissions from electricity in our operations in Turkey by procuring green electricity. Going forward, we plan to increase our installed solar power capacity to 18 MW by 2025. This will enable us to meet 30% of our annual electricity needs from renewable energy plants we will build. In parallel, we are accelerating our investments in off-site renewable energy projects, aiming to reach 50% renewable energy production in our electricity consumption. We will continue to procure green electricity certificates for the remaining electricity usage. By the end of 2030, we aim to meet all our electricity consumption in Turkey from renewable energy we generate ourselves," Özkan said. Özkan also noted that consumers are aware of the environmental impacts of products and increasingly value the actions companies take on this matter, which has now become a competitive advantage. Smart and Innovative Products Designed to Reduce Water and Energy Consumption Özkan said: "We have a product portfolio that primarily operates with water. We focus on designing and developing products with the lowest environmental impact by using resources efficiently, extending the life of our products and increasing the share of nature-friendly materials. We offer smart and innovative products designed to reduce water and energy consumption in households as well as in shared areas. Without losing sight of sustainability, we will continue to leverage our expertise in innovation and digitalization to develop products that meet the hygiene and wellness needs of all people." Eczacıbaşı Yapı Gereçleri CEO Özgen Özkan noted that they have achieved approximately 87% recycling rate in production waste and that with some 80 energy efficiency projects, energy savings equivalent to 2% of annual energy usage, or approximately 2,290 households' one-year electricity consumption, have been achieved. "We reduced energy consumption per ton of product by 4% compared to 2020, and we aim to increase this ratio to 14% by 2025," said Özkan, adding that they are proud to have increased the share of women in Turkey in new hires to 50%, in the workforce to 38%, and in management to 40%. Özkan stated: "We are aware of the importance of maintaining the delicate balance between sustainable resources, society and business. In 2022, we embarked on a transformation journey with the Eczacıbaşı Group in the areas of environmental, social and corporate governance, and by creating working groups in all departments to develop sustainability-focused initiatives, we reinforced an organizational culture that fully embraces sustainability." He also noted that during this process they reviewed and updated the organization's sustainability targets and roadmap, and that their targets are addressed under three main headings: people, products and production.
