Greenzy Ushers In Carbon-Neutral Era for Electronic Devices in Turkey

A sustainability platform enabling individual-level carbon neutrality by regenerating the annual energy consumption of personal electronics such as smartphones, smartwatches, e-scooters and computers through solar energy is entering the Turkish market in partnership with Türkiye İş Bankası.

As the world rapidly approaches the mid-21st century carbon neutrality target set out in the Paris Agreement, signed by 195 countries, renewable energy investments and climate technology initiatives have gained importance. In this context, Greenzy, a digital product developed by Aldogreen, established in the Netherlands two years ago by Aldo Group which has been active in the automotive, tourism, industrial, technology and renewable energy sectors since 1969, neutralizes device-level carbon emissions by regenerating the energy consumed by individuals' electronic devices in solar power plants. Greenzy is taking its first step into the Turkish market in partnership with Türkiye İş Bankası.

Smartphones cause 5 kg of carbon emissions annually 

Calculations show that annual electricity consumption of smartphones corresponds to 10.4 kilowatt-hours, while smartwatches correspond to 7 kilowatt-hours. The annual carbon emissions resulting from these consumption amounts were measured at 4.9 kilograms and 3.3 kilograms respectively. As the popularization of electric vehicles and e-scooters increases individual users' electricity consumption, Greenzy has developed an innovative model for consumers wishing to make sustainable choices. 

Noting that Greenzy makes it possible to neutralize carbon emissions resulting from daily electricity consumption of electronic devices owned by individuals, Aldogreen Managing Partner Oytun Eren Şengül stated: "Greenzy produces electricity equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of the device selected by users in solar power plants. In return, users receive a Green Energy Certificate for the device whose carbon emissions they wish to neutralize. These certificates are recorded on blockchain, allowing users to access real-time data regarding the production of their assigned solar panel whenever they wish." 

Democratizing the carbon market 

Noting that Greenzy fundamentally allocates carbon certificates to users through a digital Green Energy Certificate sufficient to neutralize device emissions, Oytun Eren Şengül stated: "In this way, Greenzy also democratizes the carbon market. If more electricity is generated than consumption neutralized with solar energy, carbon certificates are sold on the market. Revenue from sales is used for tree planting. As the first product of Aldogreen, the technology company of Aldo Group based in the Netherlands, Greenzy in this manner opens the way for every user to contribute to sustainability and the green transition by neutralizing a significant portion of individual energy consumption, while also creating a circular sustainability chain." 

In Turkey with İş Bankası partnership 

Noting that Greenzy will meet users for the first time in Turkey in partnership with Türkiye İş Bankası, Aldogreen Managing Partner Oytun Eren Şengül concluded his remarks as follows:

İşCep users can access the Greenzy platform from the Green Energy section on İşCep. Geleceğe Orman users will be able to neutralize carbon emissions resulting from energy consumption of electronic devices such as desktop computers, mobile phones, smartwatches, wireless headphones, e-bikes, e-scooters and tablets with special discounts by obtaining Green Energy Certificates. İş Bankası users who convert their energy consumption into Green Energy Certificates will both track the solar energy generated through their contribution in real time and accumulate carbon points in Geleceğe Orman, enabling them to contribute to tree planting through TEMA Foundation."
