LG Named to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for 13th Consecutive Year

LG Becomes the Only South Korean Company Recognized for 13 Consecutive Years in the Entertainment Equipment & Products and Consumer Electronics Category.

LG Electronics (LG) has reinforced its position by ranking among the top tier of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the fifteenth consecutive year. DJSI World ranks the top 10 percent of the largest 2,500 global companies according to economic, environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and serves as a critical benchmark for investors evaluating corporate sustainability.

LG achieved the highest overall score particularly in the Entertainment Equipment & Products and Consumer Electronics sector. It also continues to be the only South Korean company in this category for 13 consecutive years. Additionally, LG was included in the DJSI Asia Pacific (top 20 percent among the largest 600 companies in the Asia-Pacific region) and DJSI Korea (top 30 percent among the largest 200 companies in Korea) lists for 15 and 16 consecutive years respectively.

LG received high ratings across various Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) areas including environmental policy and management, human rights management, human resources management, customer relations, supply chain management and product responsibility management. Under its ESG management vision of Better Life for All, LG pursues diverse activities through a 3C strategy for the planet (Carbon Neutrality, Circularity and Clean Technology) and 3D strategy for people (Decent Workplaces, Diversity and Inclusion and Design for All).

To reach its 3C targets for the planet, LG set ambitious goals such as achieving carbon neutrality in the product manufacturing process by 2030 and transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050. LG plans to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1) and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 2) in the product manufacturing phase by 54.6 percent compared to 2017 levels. This will be achieved through process improvements, introduction of energy-saving technologies and increased use of renewable energy. Notably, LG became the first company in the home appliances sector to receive UN carbon credits in 2015.

Additionally, LG is focused on reducing unit greenhouse gas emissions of seven main product groups (TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, home and system air conditioners and monitors) by 20 percent during the product use phase (Scope 3) compared to 2020 levels. This commitment includes various activities aimed at improving the energy efficiency of individual products and thereby reducing overall carbon emissions.

As a member of the UN Global Compact and Responsible Business Initiative, LG is complying with international human rights and labor standards and advancing human rights management processes to respond to strengthened global ESG-related legislation.

In ESG evaluation and rating results released this year by Korea Corporate Governance Service, LG received an overall A rating for four consecutive years. LG also received an A rating for five consecutive years in the ESG evaluation conducted by global ESG evaluation organization Morgan Stanley Capital International, gaining recognition from trusted local and international institutions for its ESG management performance.
