Mondi and Baumit Launch Water-Soluble Packaging Mondi has introduced SolmixBag, a paper packaging solution that dissolves in water to eliminate waste. SolmixBag is a single-ply paper bag designed for storage and transport of dry construction materials such as cement and dry-mix mortar products. It is engineered to dissolve upon contact with water during the mixing process, with the bag's fibres integrating with the product as it is mixed. This eliminates waste, reduces paper waste management costs, and minimises dust on site by allowing the bag to be placed directly into the mixer without requiring manual opening. The bag is manufactured in-house thanks to the company's integrated supply chain: SolmixBag is produced from Mondi's water-soluble kraft paper and uses 20% less paper than the industry-standard two-ply paper packaging. The solution operates on existing filling machines and is available in standard sizes, providing customers with a seamless transition from current solutions. SolmixBag delivers the same strength and shelf life as previous bags while producing good print results for a quality and eye-catching shelf appearance. Mondi developed SolmixBag in close collaboration with Baumit, a long-standing customer, to bring the product to market for dry-mix concrete. Committed to supporting the construction sector in its efforts to reduce waste, the two companies worked closely throughout the product development process.
