Takeda's Sustainability Vision: Health of People and Planet

Takeda, which reached its 244th year in June 2025 by developing innovative treatment methods for human health, aims to improve the health of our planet through its sustainability efforts.

Founded in Japan 244 years ago, Takeda operates today in 80 countries with more than 50,000 employees. The global biopharmaceutical company aims to improve patients' quality of life through innovative treatments developed for unmet medical needs, drawing on science and technology. Placing people and the planet at the center of all its work, Takeda moves forward with determination toward a sustainable future based on its core values.

Takeda conducts its sustainability efforts based on the strong link between human health and planetary health. Nura Aykanat, General Director of Takeda Turkey, noted that Takeda targets achieving "net zero greenhouse gas emissions" at the operational level by 2035 and at the value chain level by 2040. In the 2024 fiscal year, greenhouse gas emissions from operational processes were reduced by 53 percent, exceeding Takeda's annual target by 32 percent.
Noting that energy efficiency projects, low-emission technologies and waste reduction programs have been effective in this success, and stating that serious steps have been taken in various countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Takeda Turkey General Director Nura Aykanat continued as follows:

"With our global mission to create a healthier future for people and a brighter world for the planet, we are developing innovative treatment methods and working with all our strength for a sustainable world. Serious steps have been taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in various countries where our production facilities are located. For example, we developed the pharmaceutical industry's first natural gas-free steam generation system in Austria, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent for one facility. With steam heating and cooling systems in Switzerland and Japan, we aim to prevent 2,790 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This figure shows that we have achieved emissions savings equivalent to removing approximately 650 vehicles from traffic each year.

In Turkey, environment-focused projects aimed at reducing our carbon footprint and investments in social sustainability hold an important place among our priorities. We support the Sustainable Development Goals and endeavor to contribute to the work of civil society organizations in Turkey. Through our approach focused on diversity and inclusion, we establish strong partnerships with valued civil society organizations operating in our country, develop supportive projects for groups in need, and advance our strong commitment in the field of sustainability with each passing day."
