Tomra Marks 50 Years With Zero-Waste Mission Tomra, a global manufacturer of advanced collection and sorting solutions, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. On this milestone, the company has announced its mission for a waste-free world. Tomra's four divisions—Collection, Food, Recycling and Mining—have unveiled their shared mission for the future as the company marks its 50th year. The four divisions announced this mission with the words: "We will transform how we use and revalue the planet's resources for a waste-free world." On its 50th anniversary, Tomra announced its mission with the statement: "We will transform how we use and revalue the planet's resources for a waste-free world." Tove Andersen, President and CEO of Tomra, made remarks during the 50th-year celebrations. In his remarks, Andersen said: "Our world needs major transformation. We urgently need to improve sustainability, develop the circular economy and use resources more efficiently. All these issues are challenges that TOMRA's solutions can help address."
"We Need to Use Resources More Efficiently"
Andersen, noting that he is proud that Tomra has become a highly respected global market leader after fifty years, said: "We urgently need to improve sustainability, develop the circular economy and use resources more efficiently. All these issues are challenges that TOMRA's solutions can help address." Founded in Norway on 1 April 1972 by brothers Petter and Tore Planke, the company began when the brothers observed a local supermarket struggling to manually collect empty bottles. They developed the first fully automatic deposit return machine (RVM) in their family garage. This invention was rapidly adopted by retailers and led to the creation of an industry for efficient return and recycling of deposit-bearing beverage containers. Over the years, Tomra expanded from designing and manufacturing RVMs to developing and producing advanced sorting solutions for the food, recycling and mining industries. Tomra's innovative solutions benefit businesses, governments, consumers and the environment in building a more sustainable future.
Transforming Companies Into Sustainable Businesses
Andersen conveyed that transformation is at the centre of everything Tomra does, and said: "TOMRA transforms ideas and technology to create smart and pioneering tools. It transforms companies into more profitable and sustainable businesses. By transforming how the world's resources are obtained, used and revalued, we help people transform their daily lives." Michel Picandet, President and Vice President of TOMRA Food, also made remarks on the matter. Picandet said: "We are proud to celebrate TOMRA's 50th anniversary. TOMRA Food is a newer member compared to other divisions, but with our shared culture and purpose, we have a strong sense of belonging to 'One TOMRA'."
Tomra Committed to Leading the Resource Revolution
Picandet expressed that forward-thinking TOMRA is committed to leading the resource revolution in a world where every resource matters. Picandet said: "We are on a mission to help and transform our customers in feeding the world, increasing efficiency, minimizing waste and creating sustainable value" and "Focused on sorting and classification, TOMRA works with its customers to maximize value throughout the food chain from beginning to end. Our solutions enhance the value of food from harvest through processing and packaging to distribution and consumption, considering the great value of the digital tools and data we provide. Because we all work to combat climate change, nature loss and increasing inequalities, this also contributes to the world's sustainability agenda."
