Yaşar University Receives Zero Waste Certificate

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change awarded Yaşar University a 'Zero Waste Certificate' in recognition of the contributions made by the Zero Waste Management System it established. Yaşar University is making a significant contribution to recycling by setting up waste separation collection stations at different points across its campus. In this regard, Yaşar University has become eligible to receive the 'Zero Waste Certificate' issued by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change.

Yaşar University Contributing to Recycling of Tons of Waste

Yaşar University is contributing to the recycling of tons of waste through its Zero Waste Management System. Collection stations placed at various points across the university campus enable the university to gather waste. Yaşar University collects tons of waste ranging from paper to glass and plastic to metal across the campus and contributes to recycling. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change, acknowledging this effort, has awarded Yaşar University the 'Zero Waste Certificate'. Yaşar University was the first university to receive the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certificate in 2016. The university continues its projects and initiatives related to environmental sustainability within the framework of the sustainability principle in its strategic plan. These efforts are being carried out through the Green University Operations Working Commission established within the university. The Green University Operations Working Commission undertakes a range of work covering planning the creation of a green campus, preventing environmental pollution, managing renewable energy and sustainable resources, and reducing waste to increase recycling while aiming to lower the campus's carbon footprint.

Collected Waste is Sorted and Handed to Licensed Companies

Through the Zero Waste Management System established as part of these efforts, the university became eligible to receive the 'Zero Waste Certificate'. Under this system, 440 waste bins and 29 containers were placed at different points across the campus. Waste collected at these points is sorted and handed to licensed companies, enabling the recycling and recovery of tons of recoverable waste. Proper classification of waste at the source is essential to prevent waste from polluting the environment and to ensure recycling and recovery are conducted correctly. Yaşar University places importance on this point and sorts non-recyclable waste and paper, glass, plastic and metal waste in separate areas, while contaminated waste, battery waste, medical waste, filters, paint, electronic waste, lighting equipment waste and motor oil waste are classified separately and collected in different areas.   Source
