Leather Industrialists Take Important Step at the International Council

Important Step at International Council of Tanners Burak Uyguner, Chairman of the Turkish Leather Industrialists Association (TDSD), has been elected to the Presidency of the International Council of Tanners (ICT). According to a statement from TDSD, a Turkish presidency has begun at the International Council of Tanners, which was founded in 1926 and brings together civil society organizations from 33 countries. Burak Uyguner, who continues as chairman at the Turkish Leather Industrialists Association and as vice-chairman at the Istanbul Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association, has been appointed to the position of President of the International Council of Tanners. In the statement, Burak Uyguner noted that he will represent Turkey in the best possible way during his two-year tenure, and stated that during his term in office, they will contribute to the programs of important organizations such as the UN, the European Union, and the International Food and Agriculture Organization. Uyguner said that under the ICT umbrella, which prioritizes an environmental approach, they will closely monitor issues such as the European Green Deal and the Paris Climate Agreement, and that they will undertake serious work in planning the future of the sector and achieving its goals within the scope of sustainable leather production.

Burak Uyguner noted that in recent years there have been attempts to create a negative perception about the leather sector, and stated that as an industry they continue their work against this perception. Explaining that they will intensify these efforts with his new position, Uyguner continued as follows: "Together with all the organizations of which we are stakeholders, we will continue to share with consumers and the public in a correct and consistent manner that leather is a truly environmentally friendly product. We are focusing on sustainable leather production and aim to protect both future generations and the environment. Shaping the future of our sector, providing employment for more people, and achieving sustainable leather production are among our greatest objectives." Uyguner recalled that the 6th World Leather Congress will be held in Turkey next year, noting that through the event they will welcome sector representatives from around the world. Uyguner stated that through this organization they will promote the Turkish leather sector as strongly as possible, and that they aim for all sector representatives to benefit from the congress.
