Devan's Natural Allergen Control Technology Also Effective Against Pollen

Devan's allergen control technology, known as Purissimo™, has been found to be effective against allergens from pollen. The technology had already been proven to significantly reduce the amount of allergen from house dust mites and pets (cats and dogs). Sofie Depluverez, doctoral researcher at Devan, says, "Allergens are small protein molecules that can cause allergic reactions and asthma. Allergy threshold

When people move into a home or bring home a new dog, the number of allergens begins to increase. Initially there is very little or nothing, so the allergy threshold that causes symptoms is far from being reached. At this stage, no one experiences a reaction. "As time passes, various allergens begin to accumulate inside the home, especially when ventilation is limited," Depluverez continues. "As allergen concentration increases—particularly in combination with seasonal allergens like pollen—the allergy threshold can be reached if no allergen reduction measures are taken."

Purissimo™

Purissimo™ is a natural allergen control technology that significantly reduces allergens from pet hair, dust mites, and pollen in home textiles. The technology is based on encapsulated probiotics, naturally occurring microorganisms such as those found in probiotic yogurt, tempeh, kombucha, and similar products. Inactive probiotics (spores) are encapsulated and integrated into textile products. Friction opens the microcapsules and releases the spores. The spores absorb moisture and self-activate, transforming into probiotic bacteria that begin consuming allergens. "As probiotics consume allergens, exposure is gradually reduced below threshold levels," Depluverez adds.
