Saint-Gobain Publishes Third Sustainable Construction Barometer

The 3rd Sustainable Construction Barometer, prepared by Saint-Gobain's Sustainable Construction Observatory, reveals that awareness of sustainable construction in Turkey is increasing, but this awareness has not yet translated sufficiently into concrete action. The research was conducted with the participation of 4,000 sector professionals and 27,000 citizens across 27 countries.

"We must act immediately"
Saint-Gobain Chairman and CEO Benoit Bazin commented on the research findings as follows:
"The result is very clear: we must act immediately for sustainable construction to become a standard. This approach needs to be better understood by both citizens and sector professionals. Beyond its environmental impact, the health, comfort and quality of life benefits it offers are unfortunately still not sufficiently known. We need a comprehensive global approach adapted to local conditions."

Awareness growing in Turkey
Saint-Gobain Turkey CEO Aykut Aydoğan commented on the barometer's Turkey results as follows:
"This report provides a valuable roadmap for Turkey's transformation in sustainable construction. Our country has now moved beyond conceptual awareness to the action stage. In the coming period, comprehensive policies aimed at producing healthy, accessible and long-lasting structures will play a critical role. Strong collaboration between public institutions, the private sector, manufacturers and educational institutions is essential for accelerating this transformation."

Key findings from the research
Awareness is rising: On a global scale, 67% of participants stated they were aware of the sustainable construction concept. In Turkey, 88% of sector representatives said they were familiar with the topic.

Bolder steps are needed: 87% of stakeholders say bolder steps must be taken for sustainable buildings. In Turkey, 34% of citizens and 41% of professionals point to the importance of financial incentives.

Environmental dimension takes precedence: In Turkey, 77% of participants associate sustainability with energy efficiency. However, social criteria such as "quality of life" and "user well-being" remain in the background (16%).

Knowledge gap persists: Only 35% of professionals have received specialized training in this field. This hinders the conversion of high awareness into action.

We are at the beginning, but the potential is significant
The research reveals that there is strong potential for sustainable construction in Turkey, but this potential can become reality through inclusive policies, locally adapted solutions and addressing the knowledge gap.
