ELIX Polymers Publishes 2019 Sustainability Report

ELIX Polymers, a company specializing in thermoplastic materials, has continually strengthened its commitment to transparency and sustainable, environmentally responsible growth since publishing its first sustainability report in 2016. Continuing this commitment, ELIX for the fourth consecutive time presented its 2019 sustainability report, which reflects all progress achieved and challenges encountered in the previous year in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For ELIX, 2019 marked the beginning of a new consolidation and growth phase as a member of Sinochem Group, during which it increased its presence in NAFTA and APAC markets as a benchmark provider of ABS solutions. ELIX Polymers Chief Executive Officer David Castañeda stated: "On the occasion of presenting this report, I wish to take the opportunity to outline the fundamental guidelines and principles on which ELIX Polymers has developed its sustainability strategy for the 2030 horizon. These include committing to improving the transition to a circular economy, reducing our ecological footprint, embracing ethical values and developing human capital". "Plastic consumption in our society can only accelerate the transition toward a circular economy model based on converting waste into raw materials through collaboration among various players in the value chain, and provide an urgent response to reducing environmental impact from its use. For this reason, we will include our stakeholders as participants in our objectives and will establish partnerships as part of our sustainability programs focused on developing a more sustainable solutions portfolio, promoting responsible innovation and caring about climate (reduction of GHGs), supply chain, responsible operations, ethical standards and human development" he added.

ELIX continued to progress on reducing its environmental impact by investing in projects that achieved approximately 10% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Moreover, the desire to improve with each passing year has led to ELIX being recognized with numerous awards, including the Best Polymer Producers for Europe 2020 Awards, which ELIX won for the third consecutive year and which distinguish the best ABS producer of the year. ELIX also secured the renewal of its EcoVadis certification at GOLD level, placing ELIX among the top 2% of evaluated companies with the highest score and reaffirming its commitment to sustainable growth. Judith Banús, Head of the Company's Corporate Social Responsibility Program, stated: "Throughout 2019, building on the four cornerstones of the Corporate Social Responsibility policy defined in 2018, we worked to improve the environment, our human team and our community by thus integrating sustainability throughout the company and value chain, and consequently contributing to the commitments defined by ELIX in the Management by Missions project". Banús also wished to specifically mention the Sustainable Development Goals: "The Sustainable Development Goals will guide ELIX's new sustainability strategy, which we will green-light in 2020. At the end of 2019, the organization internally identified the SDGs to which ELIX has special capacity or responsibility to contribute to their advancement due to its impact".
