Despite restrictions placed on emissions of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC-23), considered among the most dangerous greenhouse gases, levels have risen to record heights. Scientists explain that one ton of hydrofluorocarbon emissions is equivalent to 12,000 tons of carbon released.

In 2017, China and India, which were significant sources of this toxic gas, announced that they had completely halted emissions through filters installed in nylon, ventilation and refrigerator factories. Scientists expected a 90 percent reduction in hydrofluorocarbon levels over the past two years. However, recent research detected a shocking increase in levels rather than a decrease.   Source
