Turkish Packaging Expands into World Markets - Sarten Ambalaj
Sarten Ambalaj has embarked on a path to becoming a global firm. The company operates with a total of 18 factories, 15 of which are in Turkey and three abroad, and at its most recently established factory in the Netherlands, it achieved success in its first year and brought a second production line into operation.
Sarten Ambalaj CEO Zeki Sarıbekir stated that the company, founded in 1972 as a family business producing tinplate packaging, currently manufactures metal and plastic packaging for three separate sectors: food, cosmetics and industrial products.
Sarıbekir noted that they began their overseas operations in the early 2000s with Bulgaria. "Then we opened factories in Russia and the Netherlands. We established the Netherlands factory at the request of a US customer of ours who is a global manufacturer.
We bring raw materials from Turkey and carry out assembly here, and we produce cosmetics boxes," he said. Sarıbekir added: "With the second line we set up last year, our 2020 target is EUR 15 million in turnover. We will keep this as an assembly factory."
Sarıbekir stated that Turkey is in a good position regarding packaging and said that consumption is increasing steadily. Emphasizing that per capita packaging consumption in Turkey has risen from USD 150 ten years ago to around USD 260, Sarıbekir
said: "This figure reaches USD 450-500 in Europe, USD 550 in America, and USD 600 in Japan. Packaging consumption is growing in Turkey. Because both exports and the number of supermarkets are continuously increasing."
