Akbank Sanat's 'Digital Serendipity' exhibition extended through 19 April 2023. Curated by Helena Nikonole, the exhibition examines the phenomenon of artificial neural networks in the language of new media art. Within the project framework, artificial intelligence is addressed both as a tool and as a philosophical concept, and the impact of AI on contemporary art, culture, people and society is explored. The exhibition brings together projects by leading figures in new media art worldwide as well as works by young artists experimenting at the intersection of art and technology.

Curator Helena Nikonole commented on the exhibition as follows:

"There is a positive image of singularity in mass culture; General Artificial Intelligence is portrayed as rival to humanity, attempting to surpass and move beyond the imperfect and obsolete human brain. However, today's Narrow Artificial Intelligence is in fact a far more complex phenomenon ethically and politically than it is presented in mass culture. Modern Artificial Intelligence, thanks to its diversity and versatility, is widely used not only in science, business, healthcare and education but also in art, design and music. Thus it helps us discover not only new planets and medicines but also new aesthetic forms. On the other hand, automatic learning algorithms have many limitations and so-called biases that they learn from the data they process. Nevertheless, AI has already begun to create feedback loops, thereby influencing what happens in the physical world and becoming an instrument for many forms of 'algorithmic control'. The exhibition brings together many approaches to working with artificial intelligence in new media art. An examination of neural network aesthetics, a critical perspective on their impacts on the modern world; projects that bring together art and innovation, enabling us to better understand the role undertaken by modern technologies."
