Aegean Region's 2022 Export Figures Aegean Exporters Associations achieved a 12% increase in exports in 2022, reaching USD 18 billion 297 million, while in December they posted export performance of USD 1 billion 670 million with a 7% increase. Exports from the Aegean Region increased by 11% in 2022 to USD 31 billion 417 million. According to TÜİK data, İzmir, Turkey's second largest exporting province, accounted for 54% of the Aegean Region's exports with USD 17 billion 244 million in exports. The Aegean Free Trade Zone and İzmir Free Trade Zone contributed USD 3 billion 28 million to İzmir's exports. In 2022, Manisa achieved USD 5.1 billion in performance, while Denizli ranked third with USD 4.5 billion in exports. Aydın and Muğla surpassed the USD 1 billion threshold in 2022, setting new records. Aydın contributed USD 1.1 billion, Muğla USD 1 billion, Balıkesir USD 917 million, Kütahya USD 457 million, Uşak USD 426 million, and Afyonkarahisar USD 401 million to the Aegean Region's exports. Looking at other sectors not represented as Exporter Associations within EİB; Aegean chemical manufacturers not represented under the Aegean Exporters Associations umbrella concluded 2022 with a 13% increase in exports, reaching USD 2 billion 81 million. Motor vehicles and related industries grew 20% to USD 1 billion, the electrical and electronics sector USD 710 million, machinery and components USD 512 million, air conditioning industry USD 651 million, cement glass ceramics and clay products USD 368 million, shipbuilding and yachting sector grew 40% to USD 49 million, defense and aerospace industry grew 239% to USD 311 million, carpet sector USD 60 million, hazelnut and products sector USD 24 million, ornamental plants and products grew 84% to USD 6 million, and precious metals and jewelry grew 144% to USD 1.8 million in exports. Sectors without Exporter Associations represented in EİB achieved USD 5.7 billion in exports in 2022.

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector maintained its leading position in 2022

The Aegean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association remained the largest exporting association among the 12 exporter associations under EİB in 2022. EDDMİB increased its exports to USD 2 billion 564 million with a 14% increase in 2022. The Aegean Ready-made Clothing and Apparel Exporters Association concluded 2022 with USD 1 billion 472 million, while the Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters Association increased exports by 5% to USD 1 billion 246 million in 2022. The Aegean Mining Exporters Association achieved USD 1 billion 207 million in exports with an 11% increase. The Aegean Textiles and Raw Materials Exporters Association achieved USD 359 million, the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association USD 336 million, and the Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association contributed USD 191 million to Turkey's exports with a 12% increase.

Industrial exports surpassed USD 10 billion, agricultural exports approaching USD 7 billion

Aegean Exporters Associations Coordinator Chairman Jak Eskinazi stated, "In 2022, nine of our 12 Exporter Associations within EİB increased their exports. Our industrial sectors contributed USD 10 billion 359 million to EİB's exports with an 8% increase, our agricultural sectors contributed USD 6 billion 727 million with a 17% increase, while our mining sector's exports rose by 11% to USD 1 billion 207 million. Our ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector exceeded USD 2 billion. The chemical sector, another sector exceeding USD 2 billion, has once again demonstrated with export figures that it should be represented within EİB. Six of our sectors exceeded USD 1 billion." Emphasizing that two Free Trade Zones brought İzmir to the position of Turkey's second largest exporting province, Eskinazi stated, "As of today, 13 provinces in Turkey export over USD 3 billion. Our two Free Trade Zones, with USD 3 billion 28 million in exports, have surpassed 68 provinces. In 2022, we gained two additional free trade zones with Menemen and Bergama. With 4 free trade zones, we will further strengthen our position as Turkey's most exporting region." Jak Eskinazi stated, "While we exported to 218 countries and regions in 2022, we increased our exports to 123 markets. Germany with an 8% increase to USD 1.9 billion, the United States with a 13% increase to USD 1.4 billion, and Italy with a 4% increase to USD 1 billion are among the top three countries in our exports."
