Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), commenting on the chemical sector's February export figures: "We experienced a great disaster in February. It is a fact that this sorrowful process has deeply affected all of us. I wish mercy from God for our citizens who lost their lives, patience for their families, and recovery for our country.
Producers and exporters in our sector have provided support from the first day onwards to meet urgent needs in the earthquake-affected regions, and continue to do so. We are trying to heal the wounds of this great tragedy, described as the disaster of the century, together. In February, our country's exports reached USD 18.6 billion. Our chemical sector's exports amounted to USD 2.25 billion.
We see that exports are one of the most important supports for reviving the economy and production in the earthquake-affected regions. In this respect, as exporters, we will work even harder with awareness of our responsibility. We will continue our international activities intensively in the coming period. As a sector that makes the most important contribution to economic development and touches 27 sectors, I believe that together with our government and institutions, we will overcome this challenging period to help heal our country's wounds. Both as İKMİB and as TİM, the umbrella organization of our exporters, we will continue to provide every kind of support."
