Astor develops solutions such as mobile transformers and stored mobile transformer centers, working to prevent power outages and minimize energy disruptions that occur suddenly during natural disasters such as earthquakes. Among the company's other objectives is to increase the number of countries to which it exports geomagnetic-resistant, earthquake-resistant and volcanically-resilient transformer projects. The main projects include a power transformer resistant to volcanic conditions in New Zealand and a 120 MVA transformer design, development and implementation suited to geomagnetically induced DC currents in Scotland.
Astor Enerji A.Ş. General Manager Hakan Ünsal stressed that they are an energy company that places importance on earthquake-related work, making the following statements:
"Earthquakes occur as a result of energy suddenly being released in fracture zones and generally cause major loss of life and property. Therefore, taking precautions against the possible consequences of power outages is of great importance. As a company, we continue work on developing earthquake-resistant transformers. Conditions became even more difficult following the earthquake disaster that occurred on 6 February. However, there are still areas where we can make improvements. In emergency situations, cutting off a city's electricity or energy causes all vital activities to come to a halt. In this context, our work on mobile transformers continues, especially after disasters. Therefore, new projects such as stored mobile transformer centers also exist. The aim here is particularly to prevent power outages that occur suddenly during natural disasters such as earthquakes. Innovative and resilient solutions developed to minimize outages are of considerable importance across the country and worldwide. Among projects related to natural disasters, the development of power transformers demanded in the New Zealand and Scotland regions and resistant to volcanic conditions is an important step for us. We continuously pursue research and development activities to enhance human safety and quality of life."
