The National Roof and Façade Conference addressed innovative applications for the future. The 'National Roof and Façade Symposium', organized 8 times since 2002 by the Roof Manufacturers and Businessmen's Association (ÇATIDER) and recognized as a 'reference' for its comprehensive content, was this time organized as a conference with a broader scope. Held on 12-13 April 2018 at Istanbul Kültür University Akıngüç Auditorium and addressing "Energy Efficient, Ecological Roof and Façade Systems", the conference drew numerous respected speakers including academics and industry representatives. ÇATIDER's biennial symposium, where the pulse of innovations in the roof and façade sector is felt, has transformed into a much more comprehensive conference with broader content, more intense participation and sharing of innovations. With the main sponsorship of Işıklar Yapı Ürünleri and sponsorships from Panelsan Çatı Cephe Sistemleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., Zorlu Solar and Braas Çatı Sistemleri, the conference held on 12-13 April 2018 at Istanbul Kültür University Akıngüç Auditorium brought together numerous expert speakers. Innovative Applications Worldwide Were Addressed

The main theme of the 9th National Roof and Façade Conference was 'Energy Efficient, Ecological Roof and Façade Systems', increasingly gaining importance on the global agenda due to its environmentally friendly, efficient and sustainable nature. While ecological roof and façade applications providing energy efficiency worldwide are increasing rapidly, companies participating in the conference shared their striking innovations in this field with the public. The 9th National Roof and Façade Conference, which drew intense interest from companies, academics, local administrations, designers and students, became the sector's innovative showcase. Dr. Yüksel Malkoç, Deputy Director General of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, presented the "Cezeri Green Technology Technical and Industrial Vocational High School Building Project", Prof. Dr. Ertun Hızıroğlu, Founder of ERA Architecture, presented the "Garanti Bank Technology Campus Project", Eskişehir Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç presented the "REMOURBAN – Renewal Model to Accelerate Smart Urban Transformation Project", and Prof. Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu, Faculty Member of ITU's Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Department of Meteorological Engineering, addressed "A Threat to Roofs and Exterior Façades: Extraordinary Weather Events".

Companies Found an Opportunity to Share Their Innovations

ÇATIDER Board Chair Adil Baştanoğlu stated that they highly valued the transformation of the symposium, which sheds light on innovative developments in roof and façade sectors, into a conference, saying: "The symposium, where revolutionary developments, new technologies and standards regarding roof and façade applications are shared, has now transformed into a much more effective gathering. Everyone now accepts the necessity of efficient energy use and environmentally conscious applications for a more livable world. The roof and façade sector is implementing technologies and designs that will serve as examples in this regard. At the 9th National Roof and Façade Conference, we addressed new technologies and applications in this field with the participation of our respected academics. I believe the conference will have a reference quality with its participants and comprehensive content."

T.C. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Deputy Director General of Renewable Energy Dr. Yüksel Malkoç

Supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and built within the scope of the Building Energy Efficiency Enhancement Project, Cezeri Green Technology Technical and Industrial Vocational High School opened in Ankara Eryaman. Built as an example of cost-effectively reducing energy consumption in public buildings in Turkey and related greenhouse gas emissions, the school has the distinction of being the only school in the country that generates its own energy and provides renewable energy education. In this green school that will train 'Renewable Energy Specialists', all energy used such as electricity and heating is provided from sun and wind. Malkoç presented the project at the 9th National Roof and Façade Conference.

ERA Architecture Founder Prof. Dr. Ertun Hızıroğlu

The environmentally friendly "Garanti Technology Campus", designed and projected with an innovative architectural approach by ERA Architects, is being constructed in Istanbul Pendik as a LEED Gold candidate green building. The focus of this exemplary project, which is a technological village for 4,000 people, centers on efficient resource use, sustainability and improved environmental quality. Hızıroğlu presented the project at the 9th National Roof and Façade Conference. ITU Faculty of Architecture Instructor and DS Architecture Founding Partner Dr. Deniz Aslan, "Green Roofs" that improve buildings' energy performance, air quality and urban ecology, stands out as an innovative application that we encounter increasingly often in sustainable and energy efficient buildings. Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture Instructor and DS Architecture Founding Partner Dr. Deniz Aslan presented Vegetated Roof Projects at the 9th National Roof and Façade Conference.
