Çimsa announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2024. According to the shared data, Çimsa increased its revenue by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year in the first quarter of the year, from TRY 4,798 million to TRY 5,324 million. Çimsa, the global brand of Sabancı Topluluğu, is successfully continuing its transformation from a cement company to a building materials company and diversifying its product range. This successful transformation was also reflected in Çimsa's first-quarter figures, with revenue reaching TRY 5,324 million and net profit TRY 396 million in the first quarter of the year.
"We became one of the world's top three players in the CAC market"
Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar commented on the financial results. Zenar said that the transformation process the company has been carrying out in recent years has been reflected positively in the company's financials and stated: "Çimsa has two main priorities. The first is to make its core business more global and more profitable. The second is to successfully continue the transformation from cement to building materials and product diversification. In this transformation, CAC serves as a bridge. CAC contributes to the company's sustainability goals, innovation efforts and competitive strength in the global market. With the completion of the capacity increase investment we made in Mersin and the start of production, our Mersin plant has strengthened its position as the only plant in the world producing grey cement, white cement and CAC. The Sabancı Technology Center in Munich is an important player in Çimsa's transformation story. With the commissioning of our new production line at our Mersin plant, we became one of the world's top three players in the CAC market. To utilize this extra capacity in the most efficient way, we will reach CAC and specialty product customers directly from Munich. Through high-value-added customer-specific products like Flycrete produced from CAC, we are pioneering innovation in Turkey's cement and building materials sector," he said. Will provide 25% of electricity consumption through 'Waste Heat Recovery'
Zenar also emphasized that within the framework of the vision of doing business on a global scale, they are focused on minimizing environmental impact by increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives in all their operations. Zenar said: "Within this framework, with our investments in the Eskişehir and Afyon plants in Turkey, we increased our alternative fuel usage capacity from the Turkish average three years ago to the 30% level today. Starting at the end of 2024, we will provide 25% of our Eskişehir plant's annual electricity consumption through 'Waste Heat Recovery'. Our electricity use from renewable energy sources was realized at 54% at the end of 2023, and we aim to increase this rate above 80% in 2030. The solar power plant we recently inaugurated at our Spain Bunol plant is a concrete example of these efforts. Additionally, thanks to our R&D work in parallel with our customers' needs, 37% of our total grey cement product portfolio has been transferred to the low clinker content product group. Thanks to all these investments, we are both optimizing our business processes and taking responsibility for a sustainable future through environmentally friendly practices," he said.
