Henkel and "Alliance to End Plastic Waste" Organization

Global challenges require global solutions; that is why today, nearly 30 companies operating in the value chain of plastics and consumer products have brought to life the "Alliance to End Plastic Waste" (AEPW) organization. AEPW will develop and implement solutions necessary to minimize and control plastic waste. It will also support solutions for used plastics by enabling a circular economy. Henkel joined AEPW as a founding member, alongside its existing efforts for sustainability and commitment to a circular economy. Hans Van Bylen, CEO of Henkel and President of the German Chemical Association (VCI), stated: "As a global and industrial consumer products company, we at Henkel aim to contribute to ending plastic waste. Developing sustainable solutions for this problem will only be possible through the efforts and collaboration of the entire value chain, including suppliers, business partners, consumers, other organizations, and governments." AEPW has committed to investing more than USD 1 billion to eliminate plastic waste in the environment, and plans to spend USD 1.5 billion for this purpose over the next 5 years. AEPW members consist of chemical and plastic producers, companies operating in the consumer products sector, retail companies, converters, and waste management firms. These companies represent a range of firms that produce, use, sell, process, collect, and recycle plastics. AEPW also works with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development as a strategic founding partner.
