Henkel Plants 1,448 Saplings with Children in İzmir for a Green Future

  Henkel, a leading global brand and technology provider in three business areas—Laundry and Home Care, Beauty Care, and Adhesive Technologies—has added another social responsibility project to its sustainability initiatives. In cooperation with the Aegean Forest Foundation, Henkel provided environmental education to students in villages of Tire district in Izmir while simultaneously establishing a grove of 1,448 saplings in the region. The project was developed by Henkel employees serving as Sustainability Ambassadors under the company's Corporate Volunteer Program. Henkel, which aims to create greater value with a smaller environmental footprint and has undertaken significant sustainability work, recently implemented an important project in Tire, Izmir.   On 15 December 2017, Henkel, in cooperation with the Aegean Forest Foundation, conducted educational activities in schools in villages surrounding Tire, teaching students about nature and forest conservation, global warming, forest fires and related topics. On 16 December, Henkel Sustainability Ambassadors who developed the project, together with students, planted 1,448 saplings in the "Henkel Grove" across 26 hectares. Henkel Sustainability Ambassadors Serkan Çakar and Özlem Şanlı Oyman commented on the project they developed: "At Henkel, we want to create sustainable value for customers and consumers as well as for society as a whole. To achieve this, we work to integrate our sustainability commitment throughout our entire value chain. At the same time, every individual, like companies, can contribute to a more sustainable future through their actions. We came together in this project with our Sustainability Ambassadors to instill this awareness in our children. We have also created a grove consisting of 1,448 trees that will grow together with our children for our future. We will continue our work toward a sustainable world." they stated. Providing information about the afforestation work conducted with the Izmir Forest Regional Directorate, Aegean Forest Foundation General Manager Metin Gençol said, "The saplings to be planted will be revenue-generating species such as stone pine and almond. In this way, you are also supporting rural development. We thank you for your contribution to nature."
