Henkel Opens Discovery World's First Center in Turkey at Darüşşafaka

Henkel has launched the third Discovery World center globally and the first in Turkey at Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions, as part of its "Discovery World" project implemented in cooperation with the Creative Children Association since 2015 to inspire children to love science and learn while having fun. An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday, 11 December at the Darüşşafaka Maslak campus. The opening ceremony was attended by Hasan Alemdar, Chairman of the Executive Board of Henkel Turkey, Dr. Ute Krupp, creator of the Discovery World project and Manager of Sustainability and Discovery World Initiative at Henkel's Düsseldorf headquarters, M. Talha Çamaş, Chairman of the Board of Darüşşafaka Association, Didem Çapa, Chairman of the Board of the Creative Children Association, Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan, Executive Board Chairman of the Creative Children Association, along with teachers and students. Speaking at the opening ceremony, M. Talha Çamaş, Chairman of the Board of Darüşşafaka Association, said: "As Darüşşafaka, on the path we have taken with the mission of 'equal opportunity in education,' we dedicate all our energy and experience to ensuring that our talented children who have lost a parent at a young age and have limited financial means meet with contemporary education; grow up as lifelong learners who embrace universal values, who question and investigate, are self-confident, responsible to society and leaders. We are working with all our strength to prepare our 927 children, who come from 74 provinces across the country to study at our school, for the world of the 2030s and to enable them to embark on life as young people with 21st century skills.

The Discovery World project, realized with Henkel's support and in cooperation with the Creative Children Association, will also significantly strengthen our efforts. Throughout our 155-year history, Darüşşafaka has always taken justified pride in achieving 'firsts'.

Today, by opening the first Discovery World center in Turkey and the third in the world, we are setting a precedent once again. We are particularly pleased that the chemistry laboratory of the Discovery World we have opened will also benefit students from other schools. Our planetarium, located within our campus, has served nearly 50,000 students since its opening in 2010. I believe this center will also serve tens of thousands of students and expand their horizons." He added. The chemistry laboratory opened by Henkel at Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions is the first Discovery World center in Turkey and the third in the world, among those currently operating in 9 countries. Throughout the year, science workshops will be conducted for students by teachers from the Creative Children Association and Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions. The center will also be open to other schools wishing to participate in the Discovery World project by sending students.
