Merck Türkiye Marks 25th Anniversary by Supporting Students

Merck Turkey supports education of earthquake-affected students through corporate social responsibility projects during its 25th anniversary, contributing to society. In this context, Merck Turkey established the 'Merck Turkey 25th Year Scholarship Fund' in cooperation with Turkish Education Foundation (TEV) to provide scholarships to 25 medical school students in its 25th year. The company also awarded educational scholarships to 25 undergraduate-level earthquake-affected students studying at established universities in the country. Merck, which maintains its position as one of the world's oldest and most established pharmaceutical and chemical companies, carries out corporate social responsibility activities in its 25th year in Turkey, conscious of its social responsibility to contribute to the community in which it operates.

Standing by young people in the 25th year

Merck Turkey focused its corporate social responsibility projects planned for the 25th year on supporting the educational lives of earthquake-affected students whose university studies faced the risk of interruption following the major earthquake disaster that occurred in February. In cooperation with Turkish Education Foundation (TEV), it established the 'Merck Turkey 25th Year Scholarship Fund' with the aim of providing scholarships to 25 medical school students. In addition to this scholarship fund, it provided educational scholarships to 25 undergraduate-level earthquake-affected students studying at established universities in the country, of whom 10 are medical school students. Thus, it supported the educational journey of a total of 50 earthquake-affected university students, of whom 35 are medical school students. Merck Turkey employees can also contribute to the 25th Year Scholarship Fund by making individual donations on a voluntary basis. Additionally, both the donations made by Merck company worldwide, Merck Group employees and Merck Family Foundation to UNICEF, as well as the in-kind and cash support provided by Merck Turkey locally to the earthquake region, reached a total of USD 1 million. Şehram Zayer, General Director of Merck Turkey, made the following statement on the subject: "We carry the deep sorrow of the earthquake disaster experienced by our country. In these challenging times, we believe in the power of solidarity. As the Merck Turkey family, we have contributed from the beginning to heal the wounds. Within the scope of our 25th year in Turkey, we are pleased to support students whose university studies face the risk of interruption due to the earthquake. Just as we have done for 25 years, we will continue to do our part to contribute to the community we are part of and to support youth education."
