WACKER will collaborate with Dynaplak, a producer of bio-based raw materials for agricultural and industrial applications. Together, the two companies aim to develop hybrid binders based on starch and polymers. Initial products for interior wall paints are planned to be launched in the first quarter of 2019. In this way, WACKER is responding to growing demand for sustainable binders in the paints and coatings industry. Dynaplak's bio-based technology, combined with WACKER's decades of experience in polymer-based binder production, will result in hybrid starch and polymer-based binders. Starch is a byproduct stream obtained from potato processing. Koos Slor, Chief Executive Officer of Dynaplak, shared the following: "In our production process, we use starch that would otherwise be lost. Our innovative technology enhances traditional starch functionality and improves its performance. In an emulsified form, starch brings out its properties and helps bind together components of paint such as pigments and fillers. By establishing a partnership with WACKER, our sustainable products will also be made available to customers in the paints and coatings industry."
