In an interview with Mars Kimya General Manager Ferhat M. Sığan and Paints and Building Chemicals Sales Manager Serpil Ataş, we discussed the company's innovative work, contributions to domestic production and its role in the Turkish chemical sector.

Mars Kimya, advancing with strong and steady steps in the chemical sector, recently strengthened its position in the sector as a BOSAD member. With two major laboratory investments at its facility in Kütahya Zafer Organized Industrial Zone, Mars Kimya has taken an important step aimed at enabling the production of imported products with domestic raw materials. Mars Kimya, which stands out with its innovative products in paints and building chemicals, draws attention as a comprehensive business partner providing support in overcoming sector challenges. The company, which serves many sectors with its broad product portfolio including industrial fillers, performance minerals and flame retardants, and aims to grow by focusing on customer demands, continues to offer products in the sector with a solution-oriented approach. How have your company's growth strategies evolved since Mars Kimya was founded? At which stages has your principle of providing innovative and lasting solutions stood out?
For us, innovation is the key to success; our growth strategy is shaped according to demands from our customers, developments in the market and innovations. Support and motivation from our suppliers and customers have been factors that help us continue to advance and grow with confident steps. We are proud to serve as a bridge between users and producers of the global chemical industry with our experience.
You offer a wide product range from epoxy resins to flame retardants. How does this diversity play a role in meeting the specific needs of various sectors? In which areas do you see the most demand?
With our expert team, we provide raw materials to various sectors including paints, polyester putty, rubber, plastics, PVC panels, cables, composites, building chemicals, textiles, cosmetics, feed and food. We particularly encounter strong demand for industrial fillers and performance minerals and respond to our business partners' needs.
Technical challenges in the chemical sector change frequently. How do you help your customers overcome these challenges? How is your professional team's solution-oriented approach structured?
Our main objective is to help our customers develop and combat challenges more easily by taking a customer-oriented approach, correctly analyzing market and customer needs, offering solutions in application, recommending the right raw materials that provide cost advantages and providing technical support, thereby adding value to our customers' production. We follow developments by attending trade fairs and training sessions for our partners. We find solutions for needs in our partners' laboratories and through the experience of our expert team, and present them to our business partners. For the purpose of ensuring strong and long-term cooperation, we are aware that we must continuously develop ourselves and our products in the stages of our customers' development and struggle with challenges.
What are the advantages that BOSAD membership provides in terms of cooperation and developments in the sector?
BOSAD membership provides great advantages in helping us follow sectoral developments and establish effective communication by participating in the organization's events and following its publications, enabling us to promote ourselves more effectively in both domestic and international markets and establish new supply and customer connections for the future. Being a member of this respected association in the sector is very valuable and important for us.
Mars Kimya offers a wide product range including calcium carbonate, talc, kaolin and more. In which industries are these materials more widely used and what are the most important properties of these products?
Performance minerals, known as industrial filler products, have a very wide field of use. Widely used sectors include paints, plastics, paper, food and building chemicals. In their application, they not only serve as fillers but also add extra properties to the final product depending on the mineral type and grinding technology, and enhance the performance of the products. After minerals are extracted from nature as ore, they undergo a series of processes including sorting, enrichment, various grinding technologies, calcination and coating, and are transformed into industrial fillers of different varieties for use in different industries and applications, thereby enabling use in a very wide range of fields.
Industrial fillers are our area of expertise and we have partnerships with world-leading established companies.
How do you achieve Mars Kimya's successes particularly in storage, transportation and timely delivery? What are your strategies in these areas?
We carry out storage and delivery services at the right locations with our professional warehouse and operations team and a customer-oriented approach. Acting with the awareness that timely delivery is a very important issue in customer satisfaction, we have made it a principle to continuously improve ourselves and our transportation partners in terms of transportation and timely delivery. In this regard, we will have investments in the near future to ensure continuity in logistics.
Innovations in the paints and building chemicals sector continue to evolve. How does Mars Kimya follow these innovations and integrate them into its own products?
To closely monitor the market and technological developments and stay informed about innovations, we try to conduct frequent trips to international trade fairs, congresses and visits to suppliers and customers. Through this, we continue to develop ourselves with a continuous innovative approach regarding the variety and quality of raw material supply. Since we are distributors of world-leading companies with serious R&D investments in their field, our suppliers closely follow innovations, provide guidance and lead the way for us. Furthermore, in our investment at Kütahya Zafer Organized Industrial Zone, we are planning R&D centers accredited for the paints and plastics sector.
How do you structure the services provided by Mars Kimya with its global support team? What are the solutions you offer to your international customers?
To strengthen our supplier and customer network in different countries, our expert team provides quality raw materials under advantageous terms, reliable and fast service and technical support, and develops itself by carrying out work to continuously increase product variety and innovative raw materials. Contact with both suppliers and customers is really very important for us. To provide network in this sense, through our offices in FAS -Casablanca, Germany-Düsseldorf, Saudi Arabia-Dammam and India-Mumbai, we maintain contact with both our suppliers and customers.
Which sectors are included in your future growth targets?
Looking ahead, in the paint industry, we aim to grow in the powder coatings and wood coatings sectors by providing new partnerships and our functional products to our customers. In the plastics industry, the breathable film sector is our priority.
What are Mars Kimya's sustainability targets within the framework of environmentally friendly and reliable service policies? Can you provide information about your work on producing environmentally friendly solutions in particular?
With our environmentally sensitive approach, we will continue to take care and implement all necessary measures in conducting our storage, delivery and sales activities. Aware that providing reliable products and services is one of the key points for long-term cooperation with our valued customers, one of our main objectives is to develop and add to our product range innovative alternative raw materials that are friendly to nature and the environment.
Your flame retardant solutions range from magnesium and aluminum hydroxides to bromine and phosphorus-based compounds. What are the advantages that this wide product variety offers in terms of safety and durability? Which sectors show greater demand for these solutions?
Our flame retardant products have a wide range of applications including cables, electronics, paints, building and construction materials, automotive, furniture and textile industries. They are very important raw materials from a safety perspective and have the greatest impact on enhancing the fire performance of materials. Flame retardant additives, when added to materials, serve to prevent fires from starting or slow their spread. Their use is particularly important in areas where fire prevention is critical.
What types of innovations do the chemicals in your products, such as color pigments and biocides, bring to production processes? How do these solutions support environmental sustainability?
With our products in the organic and inorganic pigments group, we serve predominantly the paints and plastics sectors. Color pigments and biocides are very important products that affect the quality of paint. Biocides are chemical substances formed by the mixture of one or more active substances that have controlling or killing effects on microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, algae, mold or yeast. They guarantee the active performance of chemical products and production processes. Regulations are continuously updated and new-generation biocide products with content more sensitive to the environment will find wider application areas in the near future. We support our business partners with our personnel who have expert knowledge and authority certificates related to the CPA to be implemented in the coming days.
