Bayer Makes AI-Focused Innovation Push in Healthcare

Bayer Türkiye Pharmaceuticals Division hosted the "Vibe Coding Hackathon," an event focused on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the healthcare sector and future healthcare solutions. The event brought together Bayer employees along with leading figures from the healthcare and technology worlds, where innovative AI-powered project ideas were developed while the opportunities offered by AI in healthcare were also discussed with the participation of expert speakers.
Bayer Pharmaceuticals Turkey hosted the "Vibe Coding Hackathon," an event focused on artificial intelligence's transformative impact on the healthcare sector and future health solutions. Bringing together Bayer employees and leading figures from health and technology sectors, the event facilitated the development of innovative AI-powered project ideas while experts discussed the opportunities artificial intelligence offers in healthcare.
Bayer Turkey, known for its work supporting healthcare innovation, has launched an important initiative centered on artificial intelligence and digital transformation. The "Vibe Coding Hackathon" organized by Bayer Pharmaceuticals Turkey brought together professionals from different disciplines on a common platform, enabling the development of innovative ideas for the future of the healthcare sector.
During the event, Bayer employees worked in teams throughout the day, focusing on AI-powered projects aimed at improving business processes and adding value to the health ecosystem. The ideas generated during the hackathon contributed to strengthening the innovation culture within Bayer, while a panel discussion held at the opening addressed the effects of artificial intelligence on healthcare services from different perspectives.

Speaking at the event opening, Colin Tyrer, Head of Bayer Pharmaceuticals Turkey and Iran Country Group, emphasized that artificial intelligence is not merely a technological advance but an important opportunity for unlocking human potential.
Tyrer stated, "We view artificial intelligence not only as a technology but as a tool that helps people develop better ideas, learn faster, and deliver greater value to our stakeholders. Professionals from different disciplines coming together around a common purpose represents one of the strongest examples of innovation. Such platforms make significant contributions to the emergence of future solutions and the strengthening of collaboration culture."

Same Mehmari, Bayer Europe and Middle East Digital Projects Lead and Global Hackathon Coordinator, noted that hackathons are not merely events where new ideas are generated, offering this assessment:
"Hackathons are powerful platforms where learning, collaboration, and confidence accelerate. While today's ideas may not transform into final products, they can form the first steps of solutions that will change how we work in the future. When artificial intelligence's power is combined with the right teams and different perspectives, it creates a much greater impact."

Contribution to the digital transformation journey
Ali Pala, Information Technology Lead for the MENAT Region, highlighted Bayer Turkey's digital transformation efforts, noting that AI and technology-focused projects have delivered significant gains in business processes.
Pala stated, "Thanks to the AI and digital transformation projects we have implemented in recent years, we have achieved significant productivity gains. The Vibe Coding approach enables teams without technical expertise to create value with artificial intelligence. This approach broadens the innovation culture to a wider audience, allowing different perspectives to be included in solution development processes."
The future of artificial intelligence in healthcare took center stage
Within the scope of the event, a panel titled "Artificial Intelligence Applications in the Healthcare Sector and Its Role in the Pharmaceutical Industry" was held with moderation by Dr. Sabahat Oral, Medical Director of Bayer Pharmaceuticals Turkey and Iran. The panel comprehensively evaluated the applications of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector.
In the panel where opportunities offered by artificial intelligence across a wide range—from clinical research to drug development processes, diagnosis and treatment applications to patient experience—were discussed, Dr. Sabahat Oral emphasized that science and technology are at the center of the transformation occurring in healthcare.
Oral said, "Artificial intelligence emerges as a powerful tool that contributes to developing faster, more accurate, and more personalized solutions in healthcare. However, for this potential to be transformed into sustainable value, scientific approach, ethical principles, and human-centered perspective must advance together. Bringing the health and technology worlds together on the same platform today is of great importance in contributing to the emergence of ideas that will shape future healthcare solutions."
Prof. Dr. Hakan Özdemir, a Professor of Ophthalmology on the panel, emphasized that artificial intelligence is not a technology that will replace healthcare professionals but rather a support mechanism that strengthens decision-making processes.
Özdemir said, "Artificial intelligence should be viewed as a powerful assistant that supports healthcare professionals in making more accurate, faster, and more comprehensive decisions. In the coming period, those who make a difference will be those who can combine the capabilities offered by artificial intelligence with their professional knowledge and experience."
Prof. Dr. Tarık Kıvrak, Professor of Cardiology, stressed the importance of ethical approaches and data security in AI applications, stating, "In the future, institutions that make a difference will not only be those that develop new technologies but those that use these technologies with a trustworthy, responsible, and human-benefit-centered approach."
Successful projects to be elevated to global platform
At the end of the day-long hackathon, teams presented their developed projects to jury members. The projects selected as a result of the evaluation will have the opportunity to represent Turkey on Bayer's global innovation platforms.
Bayer continues to develop innovative healthcare solutions by leveraging the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence and digital technologies, while contributing to the future health ecosystem through work that brings together science, technology, and collaboration.
