Turkey's First MS Life Center Opens at Selçuk University

Turkey's first MS Life Center brings together multidisciplinary care model and technology-supported rehabilitation applications for multiple sclerosis patients under one roof.

Turkey's first MS Life Center, established within Selçuk University School of Medicine, has begun providing comprehensive care services to individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS). The center brings together different disciplines such as neurology, physical therapy, psychology and nutrition, aiming to provide personalized support programs tailored to patients' needs.

At the center, neurological evaluation and physical therapy services are delivered alongside psychological counseling, dietitian support, pelvic floor rehabilitation, neurofeedback applications and physiotherapy services from a single facility. This approach aims to address not only patients' clinical treatment needs, but also their physical, cognitive and psychosocial requirements through a holistic perspective.

Robot-assisted rehabilitation and virtual reality applications
The MS Life Center utilizes robot-assisted systems and virtual reality (VR) technologies in its rehabilitation process. In addition to applications targeting balance, coordination and movement skills, occupational therapy work aims to support patients' independence in daily living activities.

Multidisciplinary approach takes center stage
Prof. Dr. Haluk Gümüş, founder of the center and Faculty Member of the Department of Neurology at Selçuk University School of Medicine, emphasized that MS is a chronic disease not limited to neurological symptoms alone but affecting an individual's physical, psychological and social life.

Gümüş noted that they aimed to create a care model in which patients are not merely treated but also supported in different areas of life, stating that neurology, physical therapy, psychology, nutrition, pelvic floor rehabilitation and technology-supported applications have been brought together in the same center.

Improving quality of life as the goal
The comprehensive care model implemented at the MS Life Center aims to preserve patients' mobility while supporting their cognitive functions, mental well-being and participation in community life.

The center, which is the first of its kind in Turkey, is expected to establish an exemplary model for MS management through technology-supported rehabilitation applications and a multidisciplinary approach, and to contribute to the proliferation of similar centers.
