Scientists Conduct Biodiversity Research

Scientists Conduct Biodiversity Research Atatürk University supported project titled "Biodiversity and Taxonomy Laboratory Units, Museum-Exhibition Applications and Prototype Research" and "Tubitak-BİDEB 2221 Guest Scientist Support Programme". Dr. Mark Volkovits (Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg) and Alexander Konstantinov (National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institute, Washington), who came to Atatürk University from Russia and the USA, will conduct research at the Biodiversity Science Museum, where setup works continue within the Biodiversity Application and Research Centre. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Levent Gültekin, Director of the Biodiversity Application and Research Centre, the scientists who will conduct research at the Biodiversity Science Museum for 1 month will examine hundreds of thousands of living species in the museum. Mark Volkovits and Alexander Konstantinov, who came to Erzurum and had the opportunity to visit Atatürk University, called on Rector Çomaklı in his office and discussed their research activities. The guests noted that Turkey is among the world's richest regions in terms of living populations and emphasized that the establishment of the Biodiversity Science Museum is a correct step in making this wealth visible to the public. Rector Çomaklı, thanking the guests for their visit, stated that the doors of Atatürk University are always open to scientists coming as researchers from various scientific centers around the world, and that all necessary support is provided for any work that contributes to the scientific and academic community. Rector Çomaklı noted that one of his greatest dreams has been to establish the Biodiversity Science Museum at Atatürk University, and that he is delighted to have realized this dream in service to society.
