Packaging Symbols The Importance of Markings on Packaging As is known, packaging protects the product it contains and ensures that the product reaches the buyer in its safest and cleanest condition. Packaging also facilitates the transportation and storage of a product.

Packaging has certain basic functions. These are as follows;

Consumer symbols found on the back of any packaging are prepared to inform us consumers about the product. The Green Dot used on packaging indicates that the company provides financial support for the recovery of its packaging, in other words, it shows environmental consciousness. The Green Dot is a symbol in the form of two arrows interlocking with each other and is different from the recycling symbol. What Do the Basic Symbols Found on Packaging Express?

  If a recycling symbol appears on a product, it indicates that the product is recyclable. In accordance with the Packaging Waste Control Regulation, the abbreviation designating the type of packaging and the number corresponding to the material type are used by packaging manufacturers. At the center of the symbol is the number representing the type of material from which the packaging is made, and below it in capital letters is the abbreviation representing the material type.

To explain with an example;

PET: Means the product is made from polyethylene terephthalate material. PVC: Means it is made from polyvinyl chloride material with high density.

Warning Symbols Found on Packaging and Their Meanings

On the back surface of packaging are products bearing a recycling symbol that serves as a warning to consumers in case of flammable-explosive conditions. Among these products are warning symbols containing explosive products, oxidising products, and flammable products. At the same time, toxic products and properties that can cause irritation upon contact with skin are also included. As another type of product with explosive and flammable properties, there are symbols and meanings that include warnings with compressed gas content and explosive properties. When we consider the symbols on the back of packaging and what these symbols are trying to tell us, we will engage in more conscious and responsible consumption for both ourselves and our environment.
