ELIX Polymers Receives Approval from Leading Automotive OEM
ELIX Polymers has obtained approval from a leading OEM (original equipment manufacturer) in the automotive sector for anti-squeak materials.
ELIX Polymers has developed special grades of ABS and PC/ABS to reduce creaking and squeaking noises resulting from contact between plastic parts and other plastic parts, leather, PVC-foil or other products. These unwanted noises can negatively affect driver comfort and perception of vehicle quality.
Particularly with the growing popularity of electric and hybrid vehicles, automotive OEMs increasingly require anti-squeak materials for the production of critical interior parts such as door handles, armrests, seat components, sunroofs, cup holders and air vents, since powertrains generate less noise.
Several ELIX products have now received approval from a German premium automotive OEM and will be used in future vehicles.

(Photo: ELIX Polymers, PR074)[/caption] The materials were subjected to stick-slip tests according to VDA230-206 in test machines from Ziegler Instruments and very positive test results were obtained: using a 10-point scale where 10 is the highest risk level. The newly developed ELIX grades achieved a rating of 1 point, the lowest risk level. Tests were performed at various temperatures with different forces (10°K, 40°K) and speeds (1°mm/s and 4°mm/s). Particularly after thermal aging of materials where risk would normally increase in unmodified standard materials, the relevant successful results were obtained. The new grades use ELIX Polymers' base polymers: standard ABS, high heat ABS, ABS/PC or PC/ABS - and since their basic properties remain the same, this does not affect ELIX grades' existing OEM approvals. Since the shrinkage of the materials remains the same, existing molds can be used without any modifications. Significant cost savings are possible with these products, as there is no need to add felt, tape or grease to reduce squeaking and creaking noises after injection and assembly of parts. This new development is the result of ELIX Polymers' close partnership with leading automotive OEMs and its strategy of focusing on specialty value-added materials and developing customized solutions.
