Hayat Reduces Its Carbon Footprint with Renewable Energy Investments

Hayat, the first accredited company in Türkiye to hold ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification, achieves an average energy efficiency of 80% at its global production facilities, reducing its carbon footprint while contributing to the national economy.

Hayat, the first accredited company in Turkey to hold ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification, achieves an average of 80 percent energy efficiency across its global production facilities, thereby reducing its carbon footprint while contributing to the national economy.

Pursuing its objectives of twin transformation—simultaneously implementing green and digital transformation—the company aims to become the most energy-efficient producer in the sector by making improvements in energy efficiency across all processes.

Hayat brings 16 Turkish brands including Bingo, Molped, Molfix, Bebem Natural, Papia, Focus, Familia, Evony, Gleen and Sholk in the home care, baby care, women's personal care, personal health, pet care and paper products categories to millions of consumers worldwide. By generating energy on-site at its Mersin and Kocaeli facilities, Hayat both reduces its carbon footprint and adds value to the national economy.

Produce locally, consume locally

Highlighting the company's pioneering sustainability practices and its significant mission in renewable energy, green and digital transformation, Serbay Tarakçı, Energy Production Manager at Hayat, said: "As a global company that has emerged from this region, we approach our operations with a broad and holistic perspective. While increasing our production volume with the goal of adding value to the economy, we also prioritize efficient use of resources and meeting our energy consumption through renewable solutions. Through the Energy Committee we have established within Hayat, we have created serious awareness regarding energy efficiency to be applied across all business processes. As a result, we select and implement projects with high energy efficiency improvement functions from our project pool.

In order to ensure the sustainability of our operations, we have taken action to produce all the energy we need, in other words to apply the principle of 'produce locally, consume locally' at our facilities. We are achieving this through our high-efficiency trigeneration systems and solar energy systems. Among the investments we put into operation this year is our '14.6 MW DC Capacity Mersin Factory Rooftop Solar Energy' system. With this investment, we aim to prevent approximately 9,600 tons of carbon emissions annually. This is equivalent to approximately 23,350 trees. On the other hand, we have commissioned our electricity generation project, which we implemented by utilizing waste heat at 75 kW installed capacity. Thanks to the hot water we obtain from waste heat, we generate electricity through Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)."

Largest capacity trigeneration and solar power plant investment under one roof
Continuing his remarks by noting that the application at the Mersin facility is the largest capacity trigeneration and solar power plant investment under one roof, Tarakçı said the following:

"The investment at our Mersin facility was a very important experience for us. We are transferring the experience we gained in this investment to our new facilities as well. Among our upcoming plans is to increase the share of renewable energy in energy production. While undertaking all these initiatives, we follow international regulations regarding carbon emissions and update our plans in line with current developments.

Energy is a sector with high costs and requires the ability to analyze decisions in real time. Thanks to the energy software we use within Hayat, we are able to monitor Energy OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) performance and cost analyses in real time. With the awareness that managing energy is as important as producing it, we will continue to reduce our carbon emissions both today and in the future, and contribute to a sustainable world through our renewable energy solutions."
