According to Turkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM) data, Türkiye's exports rose by 3.2% in March to reach USD 23.4 billion, marking the second-highest March export figure on record. The chemical sector exported USD 2.7 billion worth of chemicals and chemical products, making it the second-largest exporting sector in March. The sector's three-month exports exceeded USD 7.5 billion.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkey's exports in March reached USD 23.4 billion with an increase of 3.2%. This marked the second-highest March export figure on record. The chemicals sector exported chemical substances and products valued at USD 2.7 billion, making it the second-largest exporting sector in March. The sector's three-month export total exceeded USD 7.5 billion.
Commenting on the chemicals sector's March export figures, Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), stated: "Our chemicals sector achieved exports of chemical substances and products valued at USD 2.7 billion in March. Thus, we have maintained our position as the second-largest exporting sector among other sectors in March. Our three-month exports for the January-March period exceeded USD 7.5 billion. To reach our year-end target, we need to increase our exports further.
As İKMİB, we continue to support our exporters through our trade fair national participation organizations, sectoral trade delegations, and Ur-Ge initiatives. We have entered a new phase with the United States, which is among the important target markets for our chemicals sector. In order to turn the newly announced customs tariffs in our country's favor, we should focus on expanding our trade dialogue not only with the United States but across all our export markets, particularly the EU. On the other hand, our Chemistry Technology Center, which we have established through considerable effort and work, has commenced operations.
We wish for companies in our sector to benefit maximally from our Chemistry Technology Center for research and development, testing and analysis services, certification, and consultancy matters. We recognize how important the chemicals sector is for a sustainable future and a strong economy. Together with our 16 subsectors—from plastics to paints, from cosmetics to pharmaceutical products, from rubber to organic and inorganic chemicals—we will continue to support production, employment, and exports.
Plastics and products led chemical exports in March
In March, plastics and products ranked first in chemical substances and products exports with USD 793.583 million. Mineral fuels and products ranked second with exports of USD 771.125 million, while inorganic chemicals exports ranked third with USD 224.664 million. Following inorganic chemicals, other sectors in the top ten were: essential oils, cosmetics and soap; pharmaceutical products; rubber and rubber articles; paints, varnishes, ink and preparations; miscellaneous chemical substances; washing preparations; and organic chemicals.
Romania was the leading export destination in March
Romania was the top export destination in March with USD 234 million. The top ten export destinations in March were Romania, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, United States, Bulgaria, Iraq, United Kingdom, and Spain. Among the top 20 countries, Lebanon saw the highest growth in March at 85.01%.
